What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Does anybody have the ECGS tool for the 7.5" clamshell? Looking to swap that out in a few weeks

 

Put my new painted fender on and get this, found a 2002 front bumper assembly on CL San Antonio that the painted eyebrow piece was mystic gold and bumper never wrecked.
Mine had dents and dings on left side, for the front end refresh, $100 bucks, score!

 

Completely agree, no worries about spilling drinks, dog hair easy to vacuum up, and storing the truck under cover but in an unheated space in a soggy part of the world means there’s always condensation, so no worries about musty carpet

 

What’s that lift and tire set up?

 

Do a lot of tacos out there rust? My taco came from Spokane. I heard they don’t use road salts, but instead some sort of de-icer.

 

It's mostly sand and some glycol deicer. Occasionally during really bad storms they salt the highway but compared to the northeast it's nothing, they don't brine or anything.

Installed a new battery. Had to jump start the truck this morning so I went and had the battery tested. Sticker on it said 01/18 so it lasted almost 7 years so it's hard to complain about that too much!

 

IMO less than 7 years is barely adequate lifespan for a battery, if you’re in a very hot or very cold climate I could see that being a factor maybe. It seems to be more recently (last 10 years or so) that battery lifespan has degraded considerably.

I have several Optima batteries from 2012 (pre-move to Mexico) that are still going strong, but my dual AGM deep cycle Odysseys from 2017 are dying, which pisses me off.

 

I live in north Texas, and the extreme heat (and sometimes cold) really does a number on vehicle batteries.

 

Refurbished fender flares today. $65 (1) 12oz can SEM #39103 flexible black bumper coater, 30 ft Sdano fender edge trim, 30 pack fender clips -Amazon. Comet, green scouring pads, dawn soap had already. Power washed, removed, scrubbed w/comet alot and finished with dawn and heavy rinse. Dried, did 3 light coats. They look new. We will see about durability they were really really anemic looking. Gonna buff out truck paint while off. Might as well way less hassle.

 

I was gonna go this route but got lazy and tried using just my hand held torch. Went from a chalky grey to black and has stayed dark still since last month. Maybe it became more brittle- time will tell

 

You'd think they'd get better but good ole capitalism has to fuck it all up and eol things to get us to buy buy buy baby!

 

I am not looking forward to the day that I have to replace my Northstars. So far they seem to be hanging in there but coming up on their 9th anniversary. Purchased Feb 2016.

Haha. Moses indeed. Yeah, I've had this truck since 2006. A lot of history. To be fair, it has only been an adventure rig for the last 10 years or so.

 

Buddy, we've been doing adventures for 14 years....

 

Oh I know. Best 14 years of my life actually.

It is probably the way I wrote that... I was trying to say the truck no longer had daily duty as of about 10 years ago

 

Anyone got the link for 1st gen speakers review or whatnot? I have 3 speakers that "kinda" work... Time to upgrade
