Is that a black plastic housing/cap? Can you show a pic of the product, less the packaging?

    Yeah.
I have a theory on this. These guys do brake jobs all day long, and most customers don't know what pads they are getting. The dealer can charge premium prices on the parts and use the economy pads, and nobody ever knows the difference. They likely don't even think about it. Most of the service advisors probably don't even know about the premium pads. The parts counter guys are always supplying the mechanics with the economy pads and may not even know about premium pads. Many might wonder why someone would pay for the more expensive pads when there are cheaper ones available.

I ran across this years ago on my 2nd gen. Went to pick up pads and the parts guy said there were 2 versions. The price difference was significant, like $40 compared to $90. This parts guy didn't know the specific differences, other than the more expensive ones are the same ones that came on the truck and the cheaper ones were for economical replacement. He showed me both, and there was a visible difference. I opted for the expensive ones. Did the same on our 4Runner later.

I would never had known if he didn't mention it and just sold me the economy ones.

Yes it's the plastic cap, exactly like the one on the vehicle from the factory, without the O-rings or the drain plug (sold separately). I transferred the drain plug over.

Just my opinion ... buy another if you now have only one left ... "one is none, two is one" ... I have one that works but bought a second to store in case I need it in the middle of an oil change.

Good thinking. Looking back, there were times when I was a young driver, I was all about price no doubt about it doesn't matter who is selling it as long as it fits my vehicle I'll TAKE it! Haha, that is probably why Toyota is offering oem and economy, they want to go after that young DIY driver too. Okay, now we know.

    Congrats!

Start your kids 529 immediately. Put in as much as you can a month. By the time they graduate high school you won't have to worry about paying for college. We did it with my kids and it makes a huge difference.

Record the advice people give, but spend a while just enjoying the time with the child. Try to take most of the shifts when mama is recovering.

I'm in the People's Republic of Canuckistan :canada:

Did you click on the link in my post? It's cheaper than buying from the local dealer, at least for me. There may be additional tariffs on Japanese-made products after the US backed out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

OH, yes! ~$21 - $25 for your part. Without going completely through the checkout process, shipping to me in USA is $15.15 which is pretty cheap!

^Check the price for the aluminum cap P/N ;)
My "redundant backup" is a 4Runner...

And if the new cap leaks again, I'll buy the aluminum version. Need to be more careful about oiling the threads to prevent aluminum to aluminum galling, though.
