I've been looking for any way to increase my fuel capacity and extend my range. Longrangeamerica has an oem tank replacement and there are a number of jerry cans/gas cans. I am mainly trying to find something that can mount under my taco, maybe in the space where my spare tire was. If any of y'all have knowledge of something, please let me know.

My first vehicle was a 71 Honda civic (chimp sized) with rotted fuel tank and lines. Sawzalled off rear hatch to carry lumber on extended bed. Mounted fuel transfer tank in hatch and copper fuel line and pump through passenger compartment. Routed through dash air vent. Used to get stopped regularly but somehow got away with it. Lasted til the rubber band broke inside the engine.

For as much as those long range fuel tanks cost, I run two 3.5 gal Rotopax in my bed to keep the cog low and only fill the reserves when I'm driving in remote areas so I don't have to carry around extra weight when driving around Screen Shot 2025-01-17 at 07.44.30.png

There were some options for an aux tank that replaced the spare. Seems like a pain. I would get an external mount on my camper shell or hitch and have a few rotopax clipped on for when I need more fuel. I personally keep sloshy gas containers out of the bed area because I sleep in there and toss sleeping bags and other stuff in the back. But some people don’t mind being a little gassy!

Not really what your looking for as it has to sit in the bed, but I got one of these. I use it mostly for trips with the boat so I dont have to pay marina prices on gas, but it would work well as a extended range tank for the tacoma too.
Its 14 gallons, I can fill my truck, boat, lawn mower, mini bike, pretty much anything I have can be fueled from it so it gets a fair amount of use.

The LRA tank for the 4Runner/GX can probably fit with minimal bracket modification, because frame rails are similar width. Very spendy tho: https://tacovinyl.com/products/toyo...xus-gx-460-2010-2022-24-gallon-auxiliary-copy

Anything mounted in the spare tire area is in the departure angle zone and will drag on obstacles off-road. The LRA tank is already thick steel and doesn't need an additional skid plate like the other options do.

There is an advantage to having the good old red gas cans, anyone can use your gas… then again…
