This breaking for wheel spin is stupid. What would the cost be to have a locking diff?
What would be if anyone, the downside of doing this, and would it be cost effective?! Thanks

A good option is the Eaton/Harrop e-locker. No air compressor or air lines needed. Activated by a dash switch.
Parts + labor for me was around $4k. Zero regrets, I use it all the time especially in winter.

If you have an auto trans, you have the 8in ring gear / 30 spline (Eaton part # 14211-1)
If you have a manual trans, you have the 8.75 in ring gear /32 spline (unsure the part #)

Be advised you'll need new/different side carrier bearings which do not come with the e-locker.

Assuming your truck is 2wd, I think you would get much more bang for the buck by trading it for 4x4.

Do you use AutoLSD mode (short push of the traction control button)? I find that it works a lot better than TRAC+VSC (default setting). AutoLSD does not use throttle intervention to stop the tires from spinning. I find it useful to get out of parking spots and intersections when in 2wd.

He asked if it would be cost effective.

Thanks for all the good comments, even the trade it in.
Sad to say, I almost got stuck in my own yard pulling my inclosed trailer, with G2 tires no ruts just slippery, blew my mind. but 2nd gen was the truck for me.
I may need to trade down for 1st time..

Are you auto or manual transmission? Are you 2WD or 4WD?

There are almost certainly cheaper options for you than a Harrop or ARB locker that don’t involve trading in your truck.
