i have one wired for my alpine 9887 and it works great. slight lag on the controls but not enough to bother me, you have to hold it for a second, which is actually good cause you wont accidentally press the controls. overall very happy with it

 

Mine is, so so....... Its hooked to a JVC avx810. I think it may be my falt it only works half of the time, just havent gotten a chance to investigate things yet.

 

I just installed

$45 PAC SWI-JACK Steering Wheel Control Module Designed for Clarion, Kenwood, Alpine, JVC and Blaupunkt

PAC SWI-JACK on my 08 Tacoma to interface with a Kenwood 7120. It works as advertised, but it took me several hours, mostly because the instructions are not car specific, you have to find the wiring diagrams and instructions, which specifically apply to the Tacoma. You also have to solder in one-ohm resister, so I took my time, not wanting to cut or solder in the wrong wires.

It was a lot easier installing the navigation unit than the PAC steering wheel interface, but well worth it. I paid $48.00 for the PAC SWI-JACK.

The link 808trdsport posted was very helpful and the instructions made more sense after reading the post.

 

Silverback- I had to program mine at least (7) times before i got it right....as you know, you only have a couple of seconds to skip certain button functions if it does not apply to your vehicle, so my indecision on whether to program a function caused me to clear the memory and start over several times....

I only programed (5) of available functions because they are the only ones i routinely use....

I did not bother with the rest of the available funcions; which button functions are not working for you ?

 

I have one hooked to my DNX 7120 as well. It lags slightly, but I still think it was well worth the time and money to install. IMO, this was one of the tougher things to install when I put the Nav unit in my truck! Like hammerdog said, take your time.

 

Does anyone have any idea where I can find a male connector that mates with the 20 pin connector on the wiring harness where the

SWI-JACK connects? I installed one of these in my wife's CR-V a few weeks back, and it was really a pain to splice into the small-gauge wires for the SW controls on that car's harness. I didn't need to use any resistors on that car, but for the Tacoma I'll need one.

I'd rather build a nice connectorized assembly from the comfort of my work bench than trying to splice wires or use vampire taps while reaching inside the dash opening.
