Hi y'all, anyone have a front mount bike rack? Cant stand fiddling with the bike rack to get to stuff in the back of my truck (have a shell on).

I am thinking about installing a front mount hitch and picking up the lowest sitting bike rack I can find, but have worries about visibility.

Anyone have this setup? Pics? I can find some on google of full size trucks or RVs/vans but it looks like the driver can't see shit

Consider that you may be blocking the sensor in the grill emblem. This may result in errors popping up in your dash.

If you are that worrying about visibility, then put the bikes on rear end. or side mount.

@Nimble9 on here who made side mounts, see info here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/sideride-bike-mounts-from-squareone-creations.660977/

You can ask him any questions you may have. You can modify your shell in order for the mounts to be fit. I understand you don't want to fiddle around with them but you will grow out of it and get used to it. I put mine on rear all the time. But here is an idea, why don't you put other stuff in the bed that you don't use much, and put something you want in the backseat that way, you don't have to take bikes off in order to get stuff out of bed. For example, put food, drinks in backseats for trips.

His truck is a 17, he doesn't have sensor... which mine doesn't have it.

Can you get an extender for your rear hitch? I use a dual hitch receiver for my bike rack and travel trailer, no issues opening my cap.

Get one of the swingaway hitches. Lotsa folks run this style with their campers.

They come in both swing directions, and a few different manufacturers make them.

Thought I'd add this picture, too. This looks like a specific all in one bike rack/hitch unit, but I've seen vertical racks mounted in swingaways in the past. Some have pretty serious hitch capacity.

No, as in ZERO, sensors in the grill emblem on a '17 Taco.

edit: Oops, @TAZMINATOR already clarified this.

Cool thanks for the link I'll look into it. We travel for work so optimizing/rearranging only helps marginally.

I used to have one of these, but it an old crappy one from the 90s. Huge PITA, didn't clear the side of the truck + used a clamp system with three screws that took 5 mins to secure (pic attached). [IMG]

Looks like they have fixed these issues. thanks!

Sorry folks, my bad. I transitioned from a 2006 to a 2021 - did not keep up on all of the features added or subtracted in the intervening years.
I have this habit of never looking back (or comparing to newer) once I've acquired a new vehicle. It's a way to avoid buyer's remorse.
