Rear seat delete platform. Easy in, easy out

I occasionally need my rear seat so my platform design was based around being able to remove it quickly.

For years I used a platform that laid on top of the folded seats but so much space was wasted by the seats themselves and it was a major hassle to get to the cubbies under the seats if I needed my jack or jumper cables.

Material needed -
4' x 8' x 1/2" plywood
2' x 8' x 3/4" plywood
1-1/4" x 4' x 1/4" steel
2" x 3' x 1/8" steel
1-1/4" screws
4 m10 T nuts with matching bolts
3 quick release hinges
6' x 10' exterior carpet
Black spray paint


The 3/4" plywood was used for a base plate to be bolted to the factory seat back mounts using the 4 T nuts and for the angled support ribs.

The deck and back panel are made out of the 1/2" plywood. The deck is screwed down to the 3/4" ribs. The back panel I cut a slot for the rear seat lock to fit through and I added a strip of 3/4" to act as a spacer to keep the panel from touching the rear glass.

For the cleat to hold the rear panel I just used a piece of HDPE I had laying around with a bolt in it so it doesn't slide out, I might end up using something else I just don't know what yet.

And for the supports I used 1/4" flat stock steel with a couple bends (thanks to my press brake) to sit flat against the factory seat bottom mounting holes and against the under side of the deck. Then I welded the 1/8" flat stock steel between them to add side to side rigidity.

Time will tell on how well they hold up without any gussets to keep them from bending.

Since the deck uses the factory seat mounts it can lift up to make access easier to the under seat cubbies, though I might end up attaching the deck to the metal legs. Once again time will tell.

Something I learned on my previous platform was that it is a pain to get items from behind the seats when I was fully loaded up for adventures so instead of using normal door hinges to attach the back panel to the deck I used quick release hinges so I can remove the back panel easily.

 

Damn that's sophisticated and nice. I only needed half of mine and worked something out.
My Dometic sits on it and the Jackery then sets in the foot-well.

I like the angle allowing you to store 'stuff' in there too.

 

I keep getting close to getting the 60% goose seat delete but the price always makes me stop.

 

The Goose system looks so nice, as do other premade ones, but $1500+ is ridiculous.
My platform cost me around $150 to build.

The same goes for bed drawers.
I build a really nice bed system for under $400

 

That is a great build. Carpet choice was perfect. I just put crates on the flats(seats) and on the floor goes the floor jack, jumper in the well. I am thinking of a seat delete then I’ll build a slot system

Added some L tracks so I can tie down whatever gear I store back there.
