Hey Guys, with some inspiration from the forum, I decided I needed a platform for the back seat of my double cab, for 2 reasons...

    1. I am tired of cleaning penny's hair off of the seat all the time.

    2. this gives her a MUCH more comfortable spot to sit/lay down on the road, and being flat makes it easier for her around corners etc.

    So, I bought

4x8 sheet 1/2" sheet of plywood
6x8 piece of outdoor carpet (you won't need this entire amount, but this is what they had at the store)
    2 door hinges

I ripped the plywood to 52'' for my width in the truck, then cut one of them to 20.5'' for the back rest, and the other to 23'' for the bottom.

    so you'll have 1 piece 52'' x 20.5'' and the other is 52''x 23''.
I trimmed the corners on the back piece to make it easier to fit between the seatbelts. you'll see what I mean in the pics.

then I cut my carpet so I would have 2'' of overhang on all 4 sides..

tightly pull the carpet around, and staple it all down.

Then I attached the hinges, I went on the inside rather than the outside so that I could fold it in to take it in and out, and the carpet would stay clean.

lastly you'll need to cut spots for the latches in the back, for that I marked the location, and used my dremel.

    Here it is installed..

Penny loves it! I think it will be great for camping trips, to give me a flat surface to load things that I want in the cab.

bed of the truck? in the summer it's too hot here for her to stay in there comfortably, and in the winter it's too cold, she's a baby haha.

and I don't have a bed mat yet so she slides all over haha

maaan if I ever get a dog, It'd be a boxer. I freakin love them. Cool idea though regardless of dogs. I've had to haul crap in the cab before and was pissed because it got my seats all dirty

That's great man! More room in the back to put things down, places for the dog to sleep/sit all while keeping the stock seats clean and out of the way. +1

Dogs don't belong in the bed! You wouldn't put you're best friend in there, work you... Wait don't answer that.

I like it, I'm going to do something similar. My only concern is its a bit high, and my dog is getting older. But not too much I can do about at except make him a step or something.

I've gone on a few drives now with penny and it's much better, and I think safer for her.
there is now a barrier between her and the front seats, she can't fall down on the floor, and she has much better grip being on a flat surface, it's working great!

they do, but it's not as flat, it's not carpeted, and all of them have the cubby holes, so she wouldn't be able to lay or lean against the back part.

Looks awesome dude. I know it sounds dumb, but you may want to invest in some type of harness for her when youre driving. I got rearended in my old truck in high school, and my dog at the time hit the dashboard and windshield. I always have a dog harness that fits to the seatbelt to keep my pup secure now.

not stupid at all, I do have a harness :) I'm thinking the latch in the middle would be a good spot to anchor to..

i LOVE Boxers!!! Put a blanket and a pillow down for her and tuck her in and rub her ears. What are you a barbarian?

Just kidding, that platform looks great. You could get crazy and route out a spot to put a water dish. Our police agencies K9 guys have high priced platforms with built in water dishes, but ti could be done cheaper.

This is a great Idea my boxer (Trigger) is always whining because seats are uneven and his long legs always have him off balance. I've had to stop short a couple times and he's slipped in between the seats. I like the harness idea to the seat locks as well.

Now that you've been using this for some time would you have done anything different?

I will be making one of these soon. Thanks for the Idea!!!

I definitely would do something different, but I don't know how to fix my problem yet.

The issue I have, is I have to take the platform out to get a 3rd or 4th person, it's just annoying.
I was thinking of coming up with something that would cover the back of the cab, yet still let me put the seat up with it in there, then cover the back of the seats with carpet or something so penny doesn't slide around too much.
