Hello all, i am new to the tacoma world (had a 88 sr5 toyota many many years ago). i just purchased a 2016 Tacoma SR5. After many days of anxiety and freaking out about the 2016 year, i said screw it and went ahead. the carfax was amazing and the previous owner took it to every recommended service appoint at the dealership up till they got rid of it. right now it is at 103k. it went through a thorough inspection. they put die in the oil and looked for any leaks and such. they found nothing other then a badly leaking power steering pump which they replaced. i am hoping all the bad 2016 traits would have been fixed by now or atleast shown their ugly heads ( I HOPE LOL). is there anything i should be super worried about? i just wrecked my 2022 kia k5 into a dump truck and this is the replacement. since the accident my anxiety level is raised a few levels so the internet has me convinced this truck will be trouble lol (does have 3 year warranty on it).

Is there any recommended aftermarket parts i should look into right away. I have been reading up on tuning, so was thinking of taking it for that right away, but wasnt sure if tuning hurts the engine or transmission at all. is there any other parts i should look at getting. my budget is limited so just looking for anything that will make truck last and ride/drive better.

Thank you all and hope my noobish questions arent stupid. Excited to be part of the Tacoma world finally.

    Welcome.

My rule when I acquire a new vehicle, be it a car, truck, motorcycle, kayak, boats, whatever, is use it for awhile, get used to it then start the mods. The exception is when I have experience already with a similar vehicle and mods I have done previously, then I make those changes quickly.

    Good luck

I have a 2016 SR5 4wd 4cyl. The mods I did right away, bed mat, trifold hard bed cover, led lighting in cab and backup lights and finally undercoat frame with CRC rust inhibitor after inspecting for any rust. Oops and mud flaps. I have all the recommended services. Next will be coolant flush and new plugs. just follow the services. I’m at 94k. With only a rusted transmission coolant line being replaced,

    enjoy

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
The problem with buying a first year comes in the first year or so. By this point, with 100k on the clock, any 'first year' problems would be long taken care of.

As said by others welcome to TW and enjoy your truck.

Drive it for awhile. Some of the best things I did to my 2018 and 2022 Tacomas were a Toyota bed mat, Subaru tweeters, Meso Custom Total Tail harness, and Diode Dynamics for all the interior lights.

I always go for quality of life/convenience upgrades first. Bigger cup holders, bed mat, LED interior lights, dash camera, etc... Start small and wait until you hit a point where you're seeing things you want improved.

Thank you all, I appreciate the warm welcome.

One quick question, when I first accelerate, if I lay on it about more then normal, it make an engine sound that only last a second or two. Not a rattle or tick, hard to explain. Is that the normal injector sound I read about with it switching modes. Normal driving she purrs like a kitten and even gentle acceleration, just if you give it a little extra?

You are probably hearing spark knock. What octane fuel are you using?

I don’t want to get into a debate with all the octane critics but, try a tank or two of 93 octane and see if it goes away. You will find that octane is a highly debatable subject here on TW.

Will do, only does it if you lay on it abit and stops when you lay off and is quiet as a mouse, I am pretty sure it is the injector thing, but figured it would ask

Definelty see why people do the ott tuning, shifting isn't too bad, but not many big hills around me but understand why people don't like the throttle response. Still a ton better then the few jeeps I test drove lol

After wife first ride I figured out my first mod. Need to throw in some running boards, my poor 5 ft tall un athletic wife was interesting to watch trying to get in the first time lol

If you are referring to the cleaning cycle that only happens during idle.

Well damn isn't that then lol was hoping. It don't sound like anything bad, just a different noise then slight acceleration. Could also be my paranoia of buying a used vehicle. Always hear gremlins till you get comfortable. Will try and record it if does again on way to work tomorrow.
