As I have mentioned in one of my posts, idea is from my old Volvo 744, this car was equipped
with storage pockets on the seat panel, on the door side.IMG_2175.jpgIMG_2174.jpg
In Volvos this storage box was a part of seat side panel - very practical, as I remember:
pack of smokes, keys, multitool, lighter e.t.c. - invisible from outside, kept handy, not decreasing leg/hip room, like many boxes (or molle panels)on the tunnel side. And I miss them!
Ok, looking at my 2019 Tacoma: can accomodate box 3x3x12 inches.
Start looking around, find "Universal car garbage can" for $5 CAD.IMG_2182.jpg

I bought two of them, trim to size (passenger side 4" high, dribers side 3" high, because lumbar support crank handle). Trimmed edge I cover with door edge molding.

Method of attachment - I deside to go with self-sticking velcro - for now (because easy to remove box for carpet cleaning or clean box itself). Screws, or plastic clips also can be used.
On the bottom of each box - anti rattling pad, trimmed to shape.
Picture with velcro pads ready to go:

Pictures of finished (for now) mod:IMG_2187.jpg
Distance between box and door panel - approx. 3/8", so no contact, no scratches on door panel.IMG_2188.jpg
So, I was using random find, and will keep looking for better shape/quality box.

Anybody with 3D printer wants to develop better version of it?
    I'll buy one :)

Very clever, and cheap to boot. Nice job!

Good idea and well executed. But I am betting that the adhesive on those velcro strips won't last that long inside a hot vehicle.

What’s wrong with the storage area on the door?
