Same guy who took care of the wife’s suv. Scanned my tires for a favorable review. Ya can’t beat that.
So. This ends another saga of truck versus computers

Update on this. Local tire joint with national connections will reprogram my ecu to the tires tomorrow for free. As long as I return with a sale.

Have you tried pushing the button low on the left side of dash until the TPMS light flashes three times and then taken it on a long drive? See your manual.

I’m positive that is for one tire not all four. I’ve tried it a number of times and got butkus. Now I have to mention, I rotate all tires AND incorporate a fifth tire in the rotation. That is the reason for the need to be reprogrammed. This is the forth rotation since opening the truck. I rotate every 5,000 miles.

I told the sales manager what I needed where I was from and willing to buy from him in the future if he could help me out for free. He agreed I set an appointment. At the appointment I bought a set of wipers for his trouble.

I need to try that, All winter I run with the TPMS light on, as the winter set are not being read.

Curiously, there is a certain section of road that I travel, four days a week all winter, that triggers the TPMS warning as I pass through. Must be some electromagnetic field or something.

When the summer set is put back on in spring, that little "recalibrate" button works every time!

It’s the fifth wheel that makes it go nutty then. For me. Stands to reason if the codes are in the. Ecu then it should read them each and everytime you reset. But for me it simply hasn’t worked.

100%. Toyota totally dropped the ball / cheaped out on this. My 2013 VW that was a $4k less had no problem at all with 5 sensors. Most of my adult life I did 5 tire rotation and now, no (Because I cannot stand to look at the light and refuse to drop the $ every time I rotate tires).

Not having storage space to remember at least two sets of sensor I.D.s is just a sin.
What could it cost amortized of a few million installations. Other makers do it.

They cheaped out quite a bit actually by using a steel wheel instead of another oem alloy wheel, I had to go out and buy a wheel and another tpm. I was able to get the exact sensor. I also heard that there are some models with 5 wheel memory. But as with everything that’s st5 access cab. You get the bare minimum and mod from there. lol. My thread on a sec

You're positively incorrect. The button is to be used at the time of a four-wheel rotation and works fine for me if I go on a long drive or wait several days of short trips. I don't like to wait. Last time it took three days of driving to do the relearn.

A five-wheel rotation will require the removal the code from the ECU of the tire previously installed in the spare location and program the ECU of the wheel taken out of the spare location for everything to work properly.

There is a member on here that has three sets of tires he uses for different purposes. The three sets are "cloned" to the original four sensors. I have recently followed his lead with my second set. I'm going to call them my boots(MT) and shoes(AT). He and I both use the Autel system sensors and programmer.

In other posts (#4 &#9) you said you could live without the warning light altogether - put some black tape over it.

I considered a five-tire system but why wait 25% more time/milage before trying out a new set of tires I have no experience with. Life is to experience, not sit on my laurels. Currently on a new fifth set and the last miles on my fourth set at 91,000 miles.

Rotation is the fronts to the opposite side rears and the rears to the front on the same side. I've gotten very even wear rotating every 5,000 miles with oil changes.

If you are going to remain with the five tires you will have to make some allowances. Repeatedly!

There the TPMS pipe-bomb method: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/anyone-built-a-tpms-pipebomb.174922/

I've also though HARD about the other trick: Drill 3 extra holes in the steel spare rim; have all 4 TPMS mounted in the spare; computer is supposed to pick them up just like the pipe-bomb and you will have awareness of your spare pressure.

@Rocket23 : yeah, only after I dished out several hundo for a new alloy rim and tire to have a 5 tire rotation did I learn our truck will not co-operate with it. (1st world problems I guess)

AND programmer. Let’s just leave it at that. Had I a programmer as well , that would be one less allowance imho.

All this is well and good. But doesn’t the sensor need to revolve with the tire to get the sensor to work CONTINUOUSLY. I’m not yelling “continuously “. Just emphasizing. Eventually the sensor needs to charge up , wake up, or whatever it does to communicate the pressure to the ecu. Clearly I have no idea how the sensor works, just spitballing.
