for every project i've ever tried to do on my own house, two things always come up. whatever i think i need for lumber, or concrete, i always need at least double.

the only real issue with crooked framing members will be when future-you does the drywall installation. you'll get into a rhythm of attaching the sheets in nice straight lines until you hit that one stud that veers off by 4". and then the screw holes will look like a woodpecker assault team as you repeatedly play "find the stud".

rotated tires changed oil threw out the old air freshener.
I FINALLY put up the 1"x 3/4" x 22" cedar trim piece next to the soap alcove in the shower that I tiled two years ago.

Trim work is so laborsome! I must have made 20 trips between the shop and the shower before it was "just right"

I can do this stuff in summer, because the wife and I enjoy the outside shower out back SO MUCH!

Heck, I have to remember to pour water in the shower drain all summer to keep the trap filled. Evaporation drys it out, and then smelly gas comes up!

My customer just sent me an update on the remodel. Plumber and tile guy were impressed with my work.

Last year was losing a ton of water in my swimming pool. Had two different companies come out for leak detection, along with myself dying around the stairs, lights and inside the pipes. First company just threw some dye around the light and said they couldn’t find the leak. Then left. The other did some sound detection and found a bunch of pin holes they said. Patched all those but we still were losing 2” a day. They put a dome over the light to eliminate that. Still unsure where the leak was. Right before the end of the season they believe it was around the stairs. They said they were not sure how it could lose that much water and not show with dye or their sound equipment. They put in a big patch but it didn’t hold and still was leaking. The water would get to the bottom of the stairs and pool light before it would hold level.

So they suggested a new line. The current liner was bought by the previous owners and we believe it was maybe only 6 or 7 years old. However we didn’t want to keep putting water in the pool and no way we could really use it so had to bit the bullet.

Not too many things I don’t do myself but this is one of them. Today they finally came out replace it. I never bothered putting the cover on last year since we knew they were gonna come change the liner. Also having a salt water chlorine generator put in they’ll be back tomorrow to finish up the liner. Not sure when they will install the chlorine generator.

Wasn’t sure where they planned to install the control board and there isn’t really anything there or place to put it. Didn’t want it screwed to the house. So built a mount out of uni-strut and steel plate for them. A little big but I’ll have area in the future if need be.

Our front fence has been pretty much toast since we bought our house, but it’s low on the priority list since the PT posts are still solid and it’s not falling over yet.
We didn’t have much in the front yard until I put in some raised beds this spring. The rotted out gate got much more annoying when we started using it.

I got off work a little early this afternoon and built a quick replacement gate in the hour before the kids got home from swim. It’s not perfect, but it’s about as much time and money as I want to put in this rotted old fence. With the cost of materials we had to choose between a fence and a deck this spring and I have no regrets about choosing the deck.

The old rotted gate doesn’t look too bad, but the wood wouldn’t hold nails or screws.

Thanks. We bought it mostly that way. Older couple lived there. He had the grass like a golf green. I don’t have that kinda time to devote. The garden beds I think he mulched so I just threw down stone and added the shed.

Have to replace a 3" copper waste pipe through my ceiling today.:( It lasted 54 years. If only the original plumber had not installed it completely horizontal with no rise to run, I suspect it would not have rotted. PVC and fernco's just seems like cheating tho.....

Looks like god-awful squeeze tabs on either side. I hate having to deal with those things.
