...without flinging gravel on side of truck, with stock 17'' rims (SR5).

About 1/3 of my mileage is on gravel/dirt roads. Looking to avoid gravelblasting if I get a 4th gen. From what I hear, aftermarket mudflaps are a must. What would be a good tire combo that would not affect power too much? Seems like 285/70r17 are a popular choice. What about 255/80r17? Looking at Duratrac RT's.

FWIW, I'm seriously considering getting the Rokblokz mud flaps to add extra fender protection, and I may add PPF on the front of the flares to boot. Currently I have 265/65/R18 Nitto Nomad Grapplers that SE Toyota put on my SR5 with high mounted, relatively wide running boards and still get mud on the rear flares, and my Yoda hasn't seen a forest service road yet, though that day is coming. I think the wide flares may be the reason Toyota is putting such high positive offset rims on these trucks, so if you swap out your rims you may want to take that into consideration. Of course, pizza cutters on high + offset rims could be your huckleberry if you're putting that many miles on gravel USFS roads. Frankly, when it's tiime to replace the Nittos that came with my Yoda, I'm going to get new rims with relatively narrow tires.

I was looking at the rokblokz, they don't seem to make SR5 compatible mudflaps. I'll call to make sure.

FYI, they'll send shorter screws for SR5.

I just put these on my truck yesterday and they're phenomenal. Word of advice, their YouTube install tutorial is slightly out of date as they've changed the design of the front flaps. Refer to the PDF (scan the QR code inside the package) for the most up to date instructions. This stumped me for a good 10min.

EDIT: Sorry, can't help with the tire question but figured I'd chime in on the flaps.

With your concerns I’d stick with stock tire size or narrower and an oversized flaps. Maybe even some side steps to protect it even further.

although your truck would look weird or awkward with a 2 inch lift.

I don't mind pizza cutters if they are functional. I'd appreciate bigger diameter to provide additional ground clearance.
    Racerover thanks for the info!
