Ditto that. If he's not coming over to the public land, I'd say you need to find another bird. Turkeys are hard headed...see my story a page or so back...that dude drew a line and would not cross it...TWICE. I literally had to go into his living room to get him in range...and this is a HOT tom. Heck, 99% of the hens are already on nest here so I knew he wasn't gettin' any...He still wasn't coming around that corner or crossing the ditch.

Most of the time they will roost right at our a little before sunset, they don't want to be on the ground in the dark because then a predator can get them.

She's probably nesting. Unless I'm mistaken, they nest on the ground.

yes they do. but they don't set full time until the very end of incubation and well after the entire clutch has been laid. They should be doing this in many areas by now.

Well the 2011 season is closed here in Indiana, and although I harvested a nice bird, I feel incomplete and very sad because I couldn't get my son close enough to his first bird to take a shot. We hunted 12 hours straight both days this weekend. Our butts are dragging.

He worked so hard and deserves a bird. I'm not happy, but I haven't allowed him to detect my frustration. He has had such a perfect attitude and I'm very proud of him.

We had a lot of fun and made some awesome memories. I don't have time to tell them all, but I can tell of the best highlight. I called a boss hen in and made her gobble 6 times within 15 yards of us. I've never seen that before and so fun to be sitting next to my young son in the woods and laughing at a turkey. What a wonderful memory.

As I'm sure you know, it's not always taking game. I'm sure your son will cherish getting to spend time in the turkey woods with his dad. That is one reason I started turkey hunting so when my kids get a little older we will be able to get away from technology and have some one on one time. And that is really what most kids want from there parents.
