Went camping last weekend on North Padre Island near Corpus Christi, TX with my girlfriend and a few other people.

They work well, just be sure to air down of course.

I did get bogged down a little in the sand playing around in 2wd. Dropped it 4lo and popped right out.

    P8130012_e76069e0864d9e2d8a5657a1d922e1fffb22a82b.jpg

I think any all terrains work better in sand because they dont dig too much and bury you even deeper.

EDIT: The beach is 60 miles long, and not 2wd friendly at all, and is posted at the 5 mile mark, "4wd only after this point". The cone in the picture is part of a little course we had marked off to play around in and see if we could navigate it in 2wd; I failed. Although a few others in my group were successful in 2wd. I just gave it too much throttle and dug myself in.

Looks like a good time! Very nice looking rig! How do you like that tent? I really like those setups. They look like they make things really top heavy though.

The tent is awesome, we love it! And yeah it could make things top heavy, I built a rack for it and mounted it over the bed, rather than on the roof. The truck still seems pretty stable at the height I have it, its just a little taller than the roof line of the truck.

EDIT: Plus I don't leave it on the truck all the time, I only put it on when I go camping with my girl. If its just me, or if I am planning on doing more wheeling, then the tent stays at home.

The grizzlies will hunt black bears as well. I was amazed to learn that after seeing a black about 100yds down-slope from a grizzly in Glacier a couple of years ago.

Nice! How heavy are those things? I have been contemplating getting one when I find a dedicated trail rig
I went to bear country in south dakota I think it is and was amazed reading all the info and stats on them.

Technically I live in the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem and in bear country. Funny. We don't hear many stories about the bears here. Only when there is some sort of encounter (like earlier this summer when the guy was attacked and killed in Yellowstone) but the stories fade pretty quickly. Must just be a tactic to scare off tourists.

Are you sure it wasn't someone from around here? J/K. That's pretty bizarre story.

what is your primary use of the GPS going to be? for hiking/trails? or for road/long distance travel?

And does anyone have any gear made by Mountainsmith? Just looking for opinions on quality and durability. In particular I am looking for some storage/organizers to keep my gear in in the truck. I have a hard plastic toolbox for my gear now and its starting to rub on the interior of the truck :( so I need a soft sided alternative.

These are what I was looking at getting...

or if anyone has other suggestions for similar storage I'm listening!

There's a couple reviews on Amazon that aren't too positive. The biggest thing I noticed in the one review is that the cubes apparently have no structure, so if you stuff irregular items in them, the cubes take on the shape of whatever's in them, which would make getting them all back in the carry bag tricky.
