I just bought a 2011 DCLB and was wondering where I should start with taking care of the exterior. I have ready many of the posts, but didn't really see what I was looking for. If i run my hand over the paint, it feels like glass.
    1. Since this is the case, i should not have to clay, correct?
    2. since i won't have to clay, I should't have to polish?
    3. Can i just get a high quality wash and a high quality wax wash every week and wax every 2 months?
    4. It sounds like microfiber towels are used to dry and to remove the wax haze. How many towels should I purchase for my truck?

I know these are dumb questions, but I want to take care of my truck from the start and purchase the right equipment once instead of crappy stuff the first time, then quality.

Congrats on the new truck! I just got my 2011 two months ago, yesterday.

You are correct that you should not have to clay it - in fact, the service records on my Tacoma (courtesy of http://www.toyota.com/owners/) say that it was clayed the day it got to my dealer. Who knows if that is true or not.

I try and wash my truck at least once a week, but lately with all of the sporadic and quick rain showers we get here, it's been twice a week or so. I live in an apartment so I do not have room to hand wash it very often - I just go to the closest, decent looking manual wash bay place and spend about $10 or so on it.

I have always been wary of using anything to dry my vehicles aside from hitting the highway at 70mph or so. :D

Just find yourself a good bucket wash, some good tire shine (I recommend Meguiar's Endurance Gel) and a good wax and polish and you should be good.

I always rely on Griot's Garage for my stuff - but there are ton of other brands out there. Zymol is a big one, and would probably be my second choice.

There is a thread just below yours that is titled, Best wax to use and it has some good recommendations from other members on the waxes that they prefer.

    Good luck!
