Bad hop coming from the rear!?!?

Ever since i bought my 05 Tacoma 2wd i've been having a very bad bouncing feeling in the rear...I have 265 Destinations on all four wheels and the two tires in the back are more worn than the other two in the front...I looked into why they were wearing like they are ( mostly in the middle and kind of spotty "hear and there")....I found out that it could be my shocks in the rear that are bad... i've got 80k miles....

When i last got them balanced the shop said they couldnt really get them ballanced b/c the tire in the middle of the tread was hoping just like it does when i drive

Is it the tires that are bad or the the shocks....or a combination of both?




any advice?

Change out your rear shocks, sounds like they are toast. You might have to get new tires but I wouldn't think you should. Start with your shocks and go from there.

 

yeah new shocks like billy 5100s would work well and then since the wear on your tires is odd you might have to change those also but I had the same hop feeling and that was fixed with new shocks

i see they are a racing shock....i dont need any of that...it there a differant alt. such as kyb?

 

If you feel that replacement stock Toyota shocks would work for you and your driving, choose most any new shock. Bilistiens are a premium shock and offer a lifetime warranty if you think you will be keeping your truck a long time yet. If I recall, nonadjustable rear Bilstiens are running about $60 each. Napa replacement shocks are in the $45 range, plus installation.

Front shock/struts for your truck will be more costly and you need a coil spring compressor to change them. Something you need to consider if you want to change them yourself. Do not try some homebuilt jury rig spring compressor.

 

Check tire pressure!!!!!!!! Appears to be OVERINFLATION--
check ALL TIRES--When i purchased my truck--the right rear hopped--poor handling on curvy roads. ONE tire had TOO MUCH PRESSURE
