I have a 2012 Tacoma and I added the back-up camera and mirror with the Homelink and compass.

I was unexpectedly surprised by three things...

    1) The temperature gauge worked immediately! I didn't expect the temperature to display without having to add anything else besides the mirror but when I plugged in the mirror the temp display turned on too and is working perfectly.
    2) There was no adjustments needed, the camera is spot on and the display is perfect!
    3) The installation was simple and quick thanks to all the "how to" articles and sticky's I've read on this forum.

Thanks for sharing all the knowledge, you all make a great truck even better with the things on this site.

Sorry for not responding sooner, military life kept me out of the net a little while.

I did not save my receipt but the parts guy and I went line by line in his book to get the best parts for the money. The mirror is gentex but we did go stock on the camera.

Call or e-mail him and he should be able to give a pretty good price on the parts and let you know what you will need to do.

Hope that gets you what you need!

    Karl,
What model of Gentex mirror did you get? Also, you used the Toyota camera and wiring correct? Thank in advance.

I was able to get a PM from OP... but information is still really scarce. im going to connect with his contact. i was under the impression he was using toyota OEM mirror (which is made by Gentex)... but now im confused again. the OP said it was totally plug and play.

I currently have a Gentex GENK30, mirror that im trying to avoid wiring it in... id rather sell it and buy OE yota parts to avoid the hassle of installing that thing, its a PITA. (i previously had it in my ranger, but i cant live without it)

I got everything from mike at the Toyota dealer. The mirror included. Its the one with the garage door opener and mike sold it to me for 2 something... Like 279 if I remember right. It did have a plug on the end and it plugged right into the plug in my headliner. I had to order a little plastic cover that hid the wiring but that popped right in too.

Again, call or e-mail mike, he deals with both stock and aftermarket parts too.

He wanted to sell me everything for under 400 but I didn't like the camera he wanted me to buy... So I paid a little extra for an OEM camera instead. I told him to expect a few calls and e-mail and he said he was ready for it. Again, I don't have my receipt anymore to tell u part numbers and prices but if u tell him u want plug n play mirror for a Tacoma he should know the deal. His job is arranging the parts and process for installing the extras people get on new vehicles like lifts, wheels, tow packages backup cameras etc.... And he's been there like 10 yrs.

    Hope that helps

I spoke to mike today as referenced in lowstatures post.

Mike is on vacation until next Monday BUT I did get the following details,
The mirror is auto dimming, homelink, temp w compass and is plug and play!!

The camera from Toyota is very pricey, to the tune of $500. I'm going to pass on the cam but order the mirror next week when he's back in the office.

he wasnt in his office, he guessed between 250 and 300 which is about what most of these mirrors go for. For me i needed to confirm the installation method as it was going to predicate if i installed my old Gentex mirror not.

I had a Gentex GENK30 (compass, map lights, temp, autodim) that i wired up into my ranger and was going to install into the tacoma but wiring that pig in is a MAJOR PITA. i just listed the mirror for sale on ebay and will pay the premium for this one cause its plug and play w homelink. (added bonus is its camera ready feature)

On the back of the mirror is the model information. Can probably take a picture through the glass. This information would help out a lot of people. Thanks.

Anyone know if it is possible to illuminate the home link buttons?

I find it odd that the Tundra has illuminated home link buttons, but not the Tacoma?
