    Your family sound like mine.

My dad was in Italy and Spain, mom was in London. I had one uncle that was a Navigator on a bomber out of England another uncle at Guadalcanal a third uncle in Africa and a fourth in Europe. Two of the uncles were lifers one in the Corps and the other was in every service. He retired from the Air Force. I had two aunts that both did duty in the US. One was a Marine and the other was a WAC.

Good morning all. Time for me to head to the gym and get some cardio in for the day.

Morning All...Great news about Chet Jim...That is a very respectful request you made to Glens son...all our vets deserve the respect and dignity we can give them...

After reading alot of the newer posts, there is alot of family history here and it all seems very interesting...Maybe we should all get together and put together a history book that tells their stories so the younger gen gets the true picture of what it was all about...Ken

Not a bad idea at all. Depending on what your MOS was and what you actually did it would be very interesting.

Morning All, The old Vet's now are going fast. Almost all had such great story's to tell. My dad loved the army he went in 1932, Was a sarg. at the start of WW2. Landed on D Day they worked there way across France and into the top of Italy. Got to stand down near the end of the war and were thinking they were going home only to find out they were going into N. Africa. Chased Romal all the way to Tripoli. When the war was over And they got to come home. He had lost almost all that landed with him on D day there were 4 of them left of the 24 he went over with. He spent the rest of his life not thinking much of Europe. Always checked the mail box on 11-11 for a thank you card and in Dec. for a Christmas card. Never got one... Jim

Two others I have read are "Flags of Our Fathers" and "We Were Soldiers Once and Young". "We Were Soldiers Once and Young" is also a movie, but does not do justice to this true story book. I read "We Were Soldiers Once and Young" three times. What those soldiers went through for three days in November 1965 was just too much for me to comprehend.

I like to read, as long as the book is either, true, based on history, history itself, or an adventure based on historical events, or times I grew up in. My wife got me one of those new fangled "electronic reader" books and I love it. Right now I am reading "Frontiersman", by Allen Eckert. It's a book about the setteling of Kentucky, and Ohio by frontiersman like Simon Kenton, Daniel Boone, and others. The author used historical letters, documents, true history to put it together. Also read "1963", Steven King and "Locked On", by Tom Clancy. Sand In The Wind (thank you) will probably be my next one!

My electronic reader is called a Nook Easy Touch (Barnes & Noble). Black and white screen, easy to read some real neat features (word dictionary, go back, find, etc. If you have WiFi in your home you can go on line with your Nook to search for new books. With mine, you can't do full internet, just book search. My wife has the full blown "Color Nook", books, enternet the whole thing. The only thing that concerns me is that Barnes and Noble, who owns the Nook, isn't doing to well financially. You may want to consider the "Kindle" line of readers (Amazon's brand). Additionally the Apple I-Pad, will do the same thing with full internet access, but they cost a lot more. If you just want one for reading, a simple black and white with a few features will do fine.

Thanks for the info, Paul. I want something that will let me surf the net and read. Don't really "need" an i-pad

The Kindle Tom mentioned with a light would come in handy. My Nook does not have a light, so I always have to read by a lamp.

Morning all...wife has a kindle(bought it shortly after they came came out) and she loves it...it looks the same as Toms wifes except is doesn't have the 3G which allows you to connect if there isn't any wifi available...I just bought the Kindle touch 3G and so far I love it...it's about the size of a paperback but lighter and easier to travel with...attached picture from Amazon...Ken

My wife is an avid reader far more so then I and she has resisted the electronic things mainly because she likes to turn pages and leave them upside down on the table. She had been talking to friends that had them and decided to try one for a day or two couldn't do it went back to hard bound. She is an Amazon junkie and buys used book for pennies on the dollar reads them and gives them to the local library.
