def. love the shave cream, but the price they are asking for the oil, i make my own for a fraction of the cost.

the oil softens the hair and prolongs the life of the blade

    google searches
    make your own

    oil recipes

i also use one of these to dispense.
does not come out in a fine mist, but a stream (so thick)

This is literally what I use. If you shave right, it shouldn't burn at all.

He knows the score! Haha! The Alum block is one of my favourite parts of the shave! :D
Remember...let the weight of the razor do the shaving.

Just found this thread! When I started *needing* to shave, the Mach3's were new. When the Fusions came out, I went to those and have used them ever since.

About 2-3mo ago I got a safety with disposable Shark blades and I love it. I can't get as close as I can with the Fusion but I'm getting better. Lately I started using both - I'll do the safety razor first, then go cross-grain with the Fusion for the baby's ass smooth run. I can get about 5-6 shaves with each safety razor and maybe 10-12 with each Fusion. Best part - Shark safety razors $9.75 for 120 blades on Amazon! That works out to 1.6 cents per shave! :woot:

Damn you, the thought of that nightmare of a game was just about out of my head, but you just had to go and bring it up again.

I stopped using an alum block on my face for the most part, I still wet it and rub the water from it on nicks to stop bleeding. It helps a lot for grip while stretching skin too. I wasn't stretching my skin well and had horrible razor burn, I started stretching it better and the shave was a lot better

The safety razors are a LOT better than the Mach 3. First time with it and it's not hard to pick up at all. I think I want an adjustable one though, I felt like I wanted a more aggressive shave. I shaved twice, once with the grain, once against, no razor burn, no knicks. The razor kept clogging also so I think that might be another reason for an adjustable (or just straight to a blade).

I liked The Art of Shaving products except the aftershave. It feels like it left a residue on my face (and I only used a very little bit). Otherwise, their shaving cream works very well but I think I want to find a stiffer bristled brush. Truth be told, I did make one stupid mistake, I put the guard on upside down once... If you've never done that, all it does it make it so the blade can't touch your skin and it's like pulling a piece of rounded metal across your face.

Anyone have any thoughts regarding the shavettes that use disposable safety blades in a straight blade style shaver? I'm considering going that route because the blades are cheap enough and I can avoid buying a strop for now. Eventually I will get a regular straight blade and learn how to strop my own blade, should I skip the intermediate step?

I have no idea how that is even possible. But you won't do it twice will ya! Rinse with hot water and it'll all come out fairly quickly. But yeah, you should be able to find an Omega Boar Bristle brush at Walmart, or your local grocery store. I know I bought mine at Zellers or Shoppers Drug Mart. Clear plastic box with a blue bottom.

Just wait...you're gonna contract RAD now...:p hahaha!

Skip the Shavettes. You'd be better of learning with a regular straight. Those shavettes are ridiculously sharp and finicky to get the angle correct with them.

i use gillette fusion proglide razor, its the best out there IMO. have used other razors and electric razors, they don't come close to getting the job done for me. I shave every other day, i would hate to see what i would have to shave if i waited 5 days. also use gillette after shave gel it works pretty good

This is what I'm using...works great. Handle is cheap plastic, but as long as you're not throwing it around and handling with proper technique, it shouldn't be any cause for problems. Blades are cheap too - $9.75/120.

edit: you can get this one too with stainless handle and blades separately

I'd have a smug bastard look too if I took that much off with one pass.....I'm taking about half that off tonight

And watch out for RAD.......it is strong, very strong.....my collection is a little bit bigger than it is here

    aefc7120-b35e-aeea_4bcad7792f2fa110d3ea8c87f6756f86d8c781bc.jpg

Add 2 or 3 more straights and 2 or 3 more safety razors

That was in something like 4-6 months

I have stopped buying lately, as I can't hone and want to learn how to hone before I go buying more.....I guess I will buy hones, or more straights when I see the right one

You got way more than I do. Nice collection you got going there. Get a Norton water stone 4k/8k. It's a mainstay for honing. I brought back a few that were butter knife dull with it. Can't say enough good things regarding them. Just be sure to lap it first.
