285 with 265 spare??

I wasn't sure if a 285 would fit...so I bought an in bed tire carrier lol

Were you able to mount the 285 on stock spare tire rim? I am looking in getting 285x75x16 tire and mounting it on the stock spare rim.

it really depends on the aspect ratio and the rim size. If you put them in the tire calculator and there is slim difference (265/65/17 vs a 265/70/16 is about the same size) then you should be ok. However,if theres a big difference in the size,you now run the risk of ruining your differentials gears and timing (more exceptionally if your have your truck in 4wd). I just went through a course for michelin training and that was one of the chapters. Hope that was a little helpful

You'll be okay as long as you don't run that 265 spare on the rear axle. Having one tire turning fast than another for such a long period of time, such as driving down the road, is a great way to burn up your gears.

If you get a flat on a rear tire, take a 285 from the front, put it in the rear, then put the 265 on the front. g2g

I thought the front wheels turn when in 2wd mode. Shouldn't the spare be in the rear?

 

i would not use the 265 if you have a LSD in the back of the truck.

 

FWIW....I was able to find a new 285/75/16 Terra Grappler on CL here in Scottsdale for 70 bucks....the deals are out there bud.
