ok, I'm not good with things like this as is clear after my other thread, but I finally have everything done (I took a few days break from it and just rode my motorcycle) but now that I'm back to it, last night I noticed, when I had my lights off, my dash lights were on like normal, but when I flipped my lights on, I lost my dash lights, couldn't see my speed or anything. I had two wires from my scosche harness attached to the actual head unit (pioneer) I connected the orange (+12v illumination) and the orange/black (dimmer) to the pioneers orange/white (lighting switch terminal). So today I tried to fix it by trying just one of the wires, orange/black to orange/white wouldn't dim (didn't pay attention to dash lights) and then what I have right now and just left it as is orange to orange/white, which dims, when I turn the headlights on, but I have no dash lights in either the lights on or off position, can someone PLEASE help me, I've already done the vast majority of it and would hate to have to go to a shop for them to do it because they'll have to redo the whole thing so that they can back their work and that'll cost $120 at the lowest, so if someone here could please save me the money and explain what I need to do with that I'd be forever in your debt.

I dont see what you tapped into to lose every light in your speedo. Thats what gets me. When i installed my HU i didnt have any of these problems. It was a simple connect the wire with the corresponding colors.

What did you do with the orange wire or orange with a white stripe?

If it is grounding out it would cause the dash lights to fail. Disconnect all orange wires and report back.

So i went and dug thru my new hu box and i remember they put a wire diagram in there for me. On mine it says that the Orange/Black isnt used. Ill add a picture to this once it uploads onto photobucket.

I dont know if this helps, but the pioneers do not dim with the dimmer switch. The only way they dim is when you turn on the headlights.

I tied some electrical tape to it and left it.

Post a pic of your wiring. If it grounded out it should have popped a fuse. If the radio is completely disconnected, harness and all, just the factory plugs remaining, do the dash lights work? If not it is hopefully a fuse.

If it's not important to you that your stereo's LEDs dim with your dash lights, leave the orange and the orange/black disconnected. It sounds as though your stereo is interfering with your truck's dimmer reference signal.

So me and ProForce (Anthony) checked it out today...

The problem was that he connected both wires together (+\-) so it over loaded the dimmer switch causing the switch to short itself and not letting the power to go thru...all is well now

After reading the description from the post I have run into the same issue. I have installed a Pioneer FH-X720BT head unit into my 2008 Toyota everything on the Head unit works as designed however when I turned on my headlights I no longer have my dash board. I removed the new unit and put the old unit back in to se if it was a wiring issue still no dashboard lights. I have also removed the illumination wore from the new HU and now dash lights. Can anyone help me out with troubleahooting? I am currently checking fuses but I don't know what else to look at beyond that.

Pioneer uses a different wiring color method, what did you hook the orange wire and orange with white stripe to?

Check your fuses if you have no dashboard lights after you removed the pioneer unit.

I'm pretty sure you need those brown and black wires connected. If your OEM radio is back in, everything should be connected.
