2007 Tacoma wishes to have running lights

I have a 2007 double cab. I would like to have those new running lights installed. I went to the local Toyota dealer and they told me this is an option only from the factory.

I am sure someone here has done the modification?!

Is this possible to have the lights installed?

 

That's your dealership being lazy... anything can be done post-factory, just a matter of time and money. Check out Whipper's link.

 

I did mine by splicing the parking light wires to the wires for the running light harness. I dk where I found the link but someone might chime in. Its a lot easier then the one above.

 

I hope you put a diode in there... does everything operate as it should, I'd imagine the DTRL is very dim and your side light now flashes with the blinker. Getting the correct relays will make the DTRL shine bright and make it stop when you need that bulb to be your turn signal.

 

Works perfectly fine. Not dim whatsoever there was a writeup on it I used after tapping the wire u shove it in the spot in the bulb harness where the wire goes anyway and blinker works fine I've had it like this for awhile now n no problems yet.

 

I just tapped into the green wire on the parking light harness as shown here:

And ran the wire into the running/blinker light bulb harness n stuck it in the open slot which is one of the three holes(one will not have a wire in it, that's where u stick the wire ur running) like this


Edit: I used the little blue plug as an insulator on the wire I just poked the wire into the blue plug n put it back in place

 

Does your side marker light work as a blinker now also?

 

Nope, the running light functions as the blinker and running light all in one. The side marker light is always on when u have the running lights turned on.

 

I just did this to my 05 last week just simply uplug and re-plug and done

I did the DTRL mod by jumping the wire from the side marker and utilising the "low" element of the bulb for the DTRL's - that's the empty plug location. The advantage of this over the stock relay is that you only use the "low" element of the bulb as opposed to the "high" element with the stock relay, and you won't burn or bubble the lenses with the "low" element on - some people seem to have this problem.
Your lights will still blink as the "high" element still acts as it always did. Another advantage is that you can turn off all your lights when driving if you want - you can't do that with the stock relay for DTRL's.

I also did the side marker blinker mod at the same time. You just cut and tap into the blinker wires so your normal blinker and side marker light blink (alternating from each other). I think it gives a better indiacation of where you're turning to others when they're not directly in front of you.

I tapped into the green wire also but I hooked it to the switch leg (without a switch) of the relay for my fog lights. Any time my running lights or head lights (high or low) are on so are my fogs. I leave the running lights on (auto shut off) so my fog lights are my DRLs. My Auto OEM Fog Light Mod

 

I did these for my dtrl cause my 07 didn't come factory with em. But I also did the fog light anytime mod so I can run my fogs same time as my running/parking lights. I usually use my dtrl n fogs as running lights.

 

Anyone know how to get those litte clips out that the wires are attached to. Then you could just take the wire out of the side light and plug it into the middle light no cutting needed.
