2012 front brake pad rattle

I just wanted to throw this out there it has been driving me nuckin futs, at first I thought it was a loose heat shield or possibly the 18" chrome clad wheel. My truck has 4800 miles on the clock I did pull the the front wheels checking for the source, anyway Toyota only puts 1 spring on the bottom caliber pin leaving the top of the pads to rattle. I install 2 springs one each side, yes I know it's under warranty problem solved. I am taking it in for the vibration @ 20 mph I did rotate my tires it seem to improve there is a lot of weights on the inside of these wheels maybe it's out of balance or it's the driveline. The weird thing is my peeps at the dealership says no one has complained so if Toyota only installs 1 spring per side and my pads were rattling has anybody else had a issue.

 

Mine only shift when going from reverse to drive. They don't rattle.

Yes they are I think it's $3 and change for 2 in a pack, I also believe they are a bit beefier than what's on there. Part #

I have a Silver 2009 DCLB TRD Sport 25k+ I am also hearing rattle when I brake. Only on slow speed. I can't tell if it's coming from the front or back. My dealer says its coming from the front brake pads. They adjusted it but the rattle returns after a week.

 

When does it rattle?

Mine - as the brakes got older - used to 'clunk' when first moving forward or reverse but I just changed my pads and no more clunks. I had 51,000 miles on the first set of pads.

 

^^Mine doesn't rattle with new pads, only when the pads are worn down about halfway or more.

 

Mine rattles like crazy..over every bump it will rattle. Reverse to forward it clunks too..

If you search google, it appears ALL toyota vehicles have the same thing.

It almost sounds like the pistons aren't adjusting as the pads wear....

OP - did you try a different dealership?? Did you request they inspect the pads/pistons? Or request they take them off, lube the pins, put them back together, bla bla bla?? Try putting your foot on the brakes (truck OFF) several times to the floor and again several times (truck running)....
Sounds like they aren't adjusting properly..??? Just a guess...

 

I just got out of the shop (two trips) for the same prob. "clunk" over bumps was the symptom but it did it going from fwd to reverse and sometimes when braking... turns out the pin that the pads ride on fits through a hole that either elongated or was machined poorly. The oval (vice circle!) hole allowed the pads to shift either going over bumps or when changing direction of rotation. no probs for a few days. Will let you know if problem returns. My service manager said they had never seen before and showed me the pads... made sense and prob solved. I also noted the single spring and figure that a second spring would probably resolve the problem.

 

This definitely annoys the hell out of me. I only get it at slow speeds when I apply the brakes or hit a hard bump. It's probably doing the same at higher speeds but the road and wind noise drown it out.
