Punctured upper oil pan

    Hey guys and gals, I'm new here so bear with me. I was recently off roading in my '11 Tacoma. I hit a bump to hard, when I came down, my motor mounts compressed, forcing the engine to slam into the rack. A "fitting" on the rack for power steering fluid punched a hole in my upper oil pan when the engine/rack collided. As a temporary measure I "JB Welded" the upper pan. I was quoted about $1200 for parts/labor at the dealership.

    Does anyone have any ideas for aftermarket motor mounts? Or stronger pan replacements? Some type of bushing that fits in between the fitting and the oil pan? Or even a way of preventing that from happening again (other than not off roading as hard)?

    Me thinks that was more of just " Hit a bump too hard "! I think you have other problems with either the engine mounts or the rack position. The engine mounts will not compress far enough to cause that kind of impact.

    It looks like the transmission tail shaft was pushed upwards that pushed the front of the engine downward into the steering rack. Look at the transmission mounts for damage.

    See if someone sells solid motor mounts or makke your own. that sucks bad :eek:

    You do not want " Solid Motor Mounts ". Pardon my bluntness, but that would be stupid.

    The motor mounts did not compress enough to cause this. Read my earlier post.

    Thanks for the info guys, ill check about the mounts. While I was roading, I was driving to hard/to fast for conditions. I was on a trail in a very bumpy area, as I'm movin forward at about 10-15mph, my font end begins to bounce up and down. Comin completely off the ground, when I came down, the pan/fitting connected and punctured the pan.

    in all my days of beating the crap out of my truck this has never happened . even when my motor mount perch started to collapse. i make bolt in poly motormounts for the 2nd gen v6, but like others have said thats not the problem.

    you bent something . either the frame where the motormounts connect to or the crossmsmber that your rack is bolted to. we have bent both in our race tacoma , but that came from hitting an immovable object

    If you're beating up the bottom of your Taco that bad, maybe you should think about investing in skids before worrying about a stronger oil pan or engine mount.

    Fortunately the parts are not all that expensive and the labor isn't difficult. Welding up some engine mount reinforcements will take some work but it's worth it.

    Upper and lower oil pans should cost you under $300 new from Toyota. Remove the front axles and differential and things become accessible. I had to remove my steering rack to get the upper pan out but was told it's supposedly possible to remove the pan without removing the rack. Your mileage may vary on that one.

    It can be done in a lazy weekend in your driveway.

    Yes, Really.

    There was no "tude" whatever the fuck that is.

    However solid motor mounts are stupid. They are flexible for a reason. Think about all the vibration etc that will be transferred to the frame etc.

    Poly may be an option, but solid is never a good choice. I stick by my opinion.

    I'm guessing that a bent "something/somethings" is a strong possibility. I need to go get my frame realigned. Out of all the trees I've hit, and rocks I've ran over, the upper oil pan has been the most concerning. I want to prevent tht from happening again.

    ^this. we used to put solid motor mounts on dragsters..one guy put a set on his pontiac Ventura..it didnt last long. the experience was unpleasant. it vibrated like a washing machines on spin cycle.
