I'm getting so tired of the mess that oil changes make, more specifically the oil filter removal. I've been researching oil filter relocation kits on TW and other sites and came across this one. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this one, or if you would have any concerns putting this on your truck.

    OIL-FILTER-RELOCATION-RELOCATE-KIT-X3-STAINlESS-LINE-HOSE-UNIVERSAL-JDM

I want something a little higher quality than the Transdapt kit. Those hoses on that Transdapt kit may work well, but I was looking for braided stainless steel lines.

    Thanks everyone.

After only my 1st oil change, I was thinking relocation too....But where?!! Couldn't find anywhere suitable that wasn't too high or too far away

The concern I have about any of these kits is losing oil pressure from inadequate filter placement. Fluid dynamics has taught me that moving the oil farther up, down, and around the circuit will cause pressure fluctuations.

This was my concern as well. Can anyone else chime in about this? How much is oil pressure effected by adding a couple feet of length between the block and the filter?

I always thought off the frame near the sway bar mount would be a good location. High up and out of the way.

I figured out a trick for the 2.7L, though.
A gallon sized plastic bag wrapped around the filter catches all the oil and there is no mess.

You guys with the 3.4 got screwed. Toyota is still laughing at you, I'm sure.

There's so many factors that effect the pressure drop that it's hard to tell exactly what will happen. There's gravity, pipe friction, flow design to name a few. Changing the filter angle throws it for a loop also. I've read a lot about these on Bob is the Oil Guy and I don't have enough faith to put one on a good engine like the Tacoma. Honestly the filter location doesn't bother me though.

I'm looking at a Amsoil BMK23 bypass filtration setup. It'll relocate, and clean much better than a stand alone filter

I was looking at that too, but with 259,000 miles on my Tacoma I don't really think I need to start using a bypass filter too to clean better. Plus I didn't want to tap a hole in my oil pan. AND, I wanted braided stainless steel hoses.

the under battery location seems about the right height, good idea...Do you plan to add extra oil, say a half quart to make up for the lines?

Probably will have to add some more oil. Although I'm not sure how much, so I'll add a little at a time and check the dipstick. Good question, and thanks for the reminder!

ARB bumper, warn 9.5 winch. carbon fiber hood. Leer top with thule racks and MOAB from thule. Electric fans, blue sea fuse block, Sony dvd Head unit, Xm tuner and HD tuner. New carpet and new racing seats. ( other half doesnt like them i think). Nwor springs and adjustable coil overs. Sky jacker rear shocks. Slot and drilled rotors. Engine Titanium ceramic coated headers, no cat, jba cat back. URD Rear Sensor Simulator. Leds all around and inside cab and HID H4 hi/lo beams.
biggest problem with remote oil filters is that the lines can drain back into the engine making more dry starts. Now if a remote had a anti drain back like the toyota filters it would be worth it.

As far as i have seen and read about remote oil filters there really is not difference in oil pressure. You only adding about pint or more to the system. Like i said above you will have LONGER dry starts in the morning and if its colder where you live more time before oil gets to the top.

Tho remote oil filters are used in class 8 trucks ( over the road) and i had never seen or heard of any problems with them.

If you do buy one i would replace the hoses every three years. You wouldnt want to get a crack in the lines and OPPS there goes all your oil and maybe a engine.

I don't know much about the details regarding dry starts, but when I recently replaced the valve cover gaskets there were small pools of oil in the head, just sitting there, and the cams had a nice sheen of oil on them. So, correct me if I'm wrong, but there's still oil in the places and on the parts that need oil. Like when you spill oil on the garage floor, or get it on your hands, it doesn't come off too easily.

Unless someone can give me some details on dry starts, I'm not too worried about this. There's some good input on this on the Bob the Oil Guy forum.
