Actually it does. 6.8 has been tested to 800 meters out of a 16" barrel with no problems what so ever. ATK is developing some even better long range rounds as we speak.

 

I guess to say 6.8 doesnt have enough ass at range is the wrong way to put it. They are pretty evenly matched cartridges until the 700-800m mark then the better BC offerings in 6.5 will come out on top.

But does anyone have a 6-5?

 

The 6.8 with the 140 Berger VLDs with .487 BC is still supersonic at 1K. Pretty much answering anything the Grendel has.

I read that the 6.5 does have better bc at longer ranges as well

 

I'm looking to move my scope forward a bit. I'm trying to decide which is the "best" scope mount to get. I've seen the Burris P.E.P.R. mounts, but I've also seen similar designs from Leupold and Nikon.

My current configuration is a PITA to pull the charging handle.

yeah, but aren't those ridiculously expensive? I'd like to keep it under $100.

 

Buy a BCM charging handle. Instead of buy a $200 mount. And I got to kill a deer with the little 223

 

Oh, well yeah, if your on a budget then the Burris is my suggestion.

over the Leupold? any particular reason why?

for what its worth, the score is a Redfield.

 

From what I've read on 6.5 vs 6.8 is that 6.8 was a better in a battle rifle while 6.5 had a flatter traj. and better for competition. But I honestly haven't researched too much, I'm in the "5.56 works just fine" camp.

 

No personal experience with the leupold so can't comment.

The 6.5 better trajectory was true until the recent introduction of the 140 Berger for the 6.8. However that's only one bullet where the 6.5 has several to choose from but does deal with over pressure issues where to hot can and do break bolts.

 

Just out of curosity, what is so great about a bcm charging handle?

 

If you click the link there's a lot of info on that page about the theory behind the design if you scroll down. I use the BCM because I like the larger latch design better than other enlarged latches (like the Badger latch, for instance) and the latch also has a "gas buster" effect because of the ridge at the back. Helps keep the blowback out of my face. A true Gas Buster vented latch is closer to $100 though.

I like the medium BCM Gunfighter. It comes in 3 latch lengths.

Nice list. Spared no expense. I have 2 questions.
1st for the young bolt are you going phosphate or chrome, standard M16 or NM and I assume you meant BCG or if you only meant bolt whose carrier and internals are you going to use?

2nd: why the surefire flash hider over the break? This one is just a curiosity thing.
