    15,000 to go if U got a 6. 85,000 if U got a 4 - tho I wouldn't wait to 100,000 on the 4 - plugs might be welded in place by then.

While I wouldn't recommend waiting this long, I had almost 125K miles on my first 2006 Tacoma before I changed the plugs. Never had any problems. I have the 6 cylinder engine.

Thanks. Good 2 no. Maybe I'll rethink. If there is no problem taking them out could save some work & $ by not doing them til 100,000. :D

I have yet to pull any of our plugs at 100k or more and have any issue getting them out. Pretty much all Toyota 4 cylinders now adays are iridium and not replaced till 100k plus, with very few exceptions.

My '08 has 51,000 miles, and I bought it with 42,000. I decided to change my plugs today, and I'm glad I did.

Thanks for the write ups and the pics, it was a huge help.

Changed my plugs today to Denso Iridium, glad I did they were definitely in need. Thanks for a great write-up, read it before doing my truck. Really helped and saved time by knowing the proper steps for this motor and not having to learn by trial and error.
    Thanks again,
    John

Oh, and after owning a 1998 Ford Ranger XLT 2.5L 4cyl which had eight spark plugs, this thing was so nice!

put in my new OEM plugs today at 86.5k, looks like the previous owner never changed them out as they still had NGK on the driver side. pretty glad i did as they look a little worn!

Yup, those look to be original, another easy way to tell, look at the top tip and you will find a white line, kinda looks like a letter i. Most, but not all, of Toyota factory spark plugs have some sort of white mark on the top tip.

Got everything needed to do my plugs/wires now... What is the MINIMUM gap i can run on my plugs when installing them? The guys computer at NAPA showed .44 as the OEM replacement and I was accordingly given 6 of the NGK copper dual electrode plugs. Checking now, the plugs are around .35 and a few below .30 . I realize the gap will widen over time but what issues arise from too small of a gap? Think I will play it safe and widen them to about .40?

.040 is a good gap, and max is .043

awesome thank you Chris, considered leaving them at the super small gap but figured I would double check.

Another question didn't see mentioned, is it necessary to replace throttle body gasket or any other gaskets when disassembling all this stuff to get to plugs easily?
