OK need some serious help, I have a knocking coming from the motor,  It doesnt sound like a manifold leak that would be loud, sounds like valves, I was thinking stuck lifter, anyone here heard of stuck lifters, or maybe its something simple its definitly a kock not the " toyota tick". Sadly you are out of luck. Most searching you will do will come up with idiots complaining about the typical lifter noise. Wish I could help more, but if I ever get to dig into mine Ill let you know.

Have your oil analyzed by http://www.blackstone-labs.com/
Best course of action besides ripping it apart for physical evidence of the knock.

My story about the "knock" http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/te...ad-major-failure-1grfe-v-6-a.html#post6048565

Run some fuel line cleaner through her and if you are not already running synthetic oil switch.

what year, how many miles, that sort of stuff would help the people who are most helpful with this stuff.

my '10 had the toyota tick that I ignored when I bought it since it was what I wanted for what I would pay but it got more and more annoying. I talked to the dealer and they were like its normal ran some fuel injector cleaner through it and changed to synthetic oil and I am back to a normal toyota sounding engine.

    1. lifters typically tap or tick, not usually knock.
    2. Excessive carbon buildup can also cause a knock. Have a qualified tech look at it and see what they think. If it is carbon build up on the piston, you can usually seafoam it. Can you get an audio recording of the noise and post it?

took truck to shop expecting the worst, it ended up being the belt tensioner failed and it was allowing the belt to slap against the motor ( no damage done).
