but no i did that and slammed it down and still same movements. ive taken top cap off and tightened everything down dick tight. what tools do you need to take the fork off? ill just break her down and take a look.

    Yes, I sold my '13 Taco. :'(
Just need a basic set of allen heads. Loosen up the stem & the cap, pop your handlebar off, and start checking. If your headset is fubar'd, you will need specialized tools to take that out and replace it(without marring up your headtube)---at that point just take it over to the bike shop.

There shouldn't be any kind of locking rings. Give the crown a good wack downwards. If you havent removed the fork in a while, sometimes they need some force to slide out.

alright so i guess i fucked with the top cap bolt too much so now i assume the star nut inside is spinning. guess i put it on one too many times. aka hex screw spins but goes nowhere. suggestions? trying to remove it.

and i havent actually seen the broken tube yet i took it into the bike shop and that was their diagnosis. i want to see for myself.

They have different style top caps that have their own wedge thing to tighten stuff up. If you get one of those you can just drive the star nut down out of the way some and leave it in there or drive it all the way out the bottom of steerer with something long like tall socket extension and get a new one to put back in top. I say drive out the bottom because backwards back out the top can be a bitch going against what the star nut is designed to do, not come out.

    Something like this..........

    dang sorry to hear!

Contact the manufacturer to see if they can press in a new steertube for you. Assuming they are no different than RockShox, Fox, Marz etc, they probably will tell you they can't and you'll need to buy a new crown/steerer/stanchion assembly----not cheap, BUT still much cheaper than buying a new fork.

Yeah, pics of the steerer tube please! I've been wrenching and racing for 12+ years now, and have never seen that. I have seen steerer tubes work their way loose from the crown, but never a broken tube.
