And these were perfect instructions for my 2012 Access Cab with camera!! Needle nose plyers were the key! And be sure to add grease as stated above. Thank you rockstar!

Thanks to the OP for the tutorial, installed the PL5300 with no problem. I paid $55 on Amazon, but looks like they have it down to $51.73 today! I think that's the best price I've seen so far.

Glad the added details helped. I think there have been some small changes to the latest tacos or even the pl5300 itself. The original instructions are so good though that I only had a few instances where I had to figure those changes out.

Installed successfully the other night. No problems, with just a bit of common sense. Releasing the camera from the harness was a bit tricky . . A very small tab has to me lifted, not squeezed. Needle nose pliers and a small straight screwdriver are almost as essential as the 10mm socket. I actually prefer this new view offered by the repositioned camera. I can't say I did the install in record time but then who cares. It's not a race and was a pleasant way to spend a relaxed spring evening in the garage. My only recommendations : If you are rushed for time, don't do it . . it'll wait. Add graphite to the dry lock cylinder and litho grease to the pivot linkage. Don't close up the tailgate until tested . . with keys in-hand.

that tab has a place to push in on it at the very end of the platic part to lift the tab off the notch on the opposite end. i pulled it off by pushing down on it instead of using any tools

I know you wrote this eons ago, but I just installed the PL5304 on my 2013 DCSB using your pics. The only thing different between 2009 and 2013 is the tab to release the wiring harness is now on top. Simply press down and the harness comes part easily. Thanks!

These step-by-step instructions are invaluable. What comes with the lock aren't worth the paper they are printed on. Thanks so much to OP and other additions.

With my new Extang cover my truck is now lockable. Fantastic!

Just installed one of these on my 2013 yesterday, wish I had searched the internet first instead of relying on the crappy instructions provided by Pop N Lock.

I broke one of the red/black clips that hold the "scissor" wires to the locking mechanism. Thinking this would not be an issue, I bolted everything up and opened/closed the tailgate a few times with no problem. Went to dinner last night, came home and tried opening the tailgate, no go.

Without unbolting everything I think the wire probably slipped out because of the broken clip. If I'm going to open the panel back up I figured I might as well replace the clip.

Does anyone have a part number and/or know where i can get one of the red/black scissor clips?

I had a similar problem when I installed the pop lock on my 2103. No way to unbolt everything when the tailgate will not open. I ended up taking the truck to Toyota. They charged me $35 to open to tailgate and fix the problem. Experience is what you get when you did not get what you wanted. $35 was the cost of the experience. Works great now.

Any idea what the dealer did to get the tailgate open?

I asked the service tech that questions. He said they have some kind of a special, plastic screwdriver they use. Said they used to use a regular metal screwdriver, but they ended up scratching the tailgate. That's all the info he provided, but I did get the impression they see locked tailgates fairly often.

Not sure how well known this is, but the PL5300 does not fit the 2014 camera without modification. I modified mine (made mounting holes to center the camera on the PL5300 camera mount), but it sits in a bit and has a hood over it. Works well enough for me.

I wish I would have seen this 3 weeks ago. I just tried installing a PL5300 and found out it doesn't fit...
