Previous owner used to haul heavy loads, so he put an AAL on it and TRD front suspension with a lift and custom rear suspension for added weight capacity. I recently installed a tow package (Curt with lifetime warranty) So i will definitely see what this thing can handle as far as weight goes.
I have about 75,000 miles on my truck atm and I am wondering if I should keep using standard 5w-30 or switch to a thicker oil when its time for a new oil change. I am currently using pennzoil platinum full synthetic. At what milage should I start using high milage oil? On the high milage oil containers it says 75,000. But I'm sure that exagerated marketing to get you to buy the stuff.

Yea, And thats still not necessary... There are people here with twice that amount and they still use the same oil they used back when their trucks were still babies. It's a Toyota, 200K miles on these is like 80K miles on a Ford or 50K miles on a Mercedes.

I intend to continue to use 5w30 Royal Purple the entire time I own this truck... And I'm at 81K miles now.

I know they last that long, but damn, I also have an 1987 camry with 207,000 on it and I know that uses high milage oil for sure. When I look at my truck compared to most other brands, I think mine has pretty damn low milage. But wonder too if I should consider it a "high milage vehicle and use high milage oil because 75,000 miles is still quite a bit of miles. toyo trucks have proven they are capable of living up to 300-400,000 miles. I just want to make sure I am on the right path to reach that!

This is all very interesting I've been using the Valvoline high mileage oil since 100K. I'm currently at 186,6XX with routine repairs plugs, pcv valve etc... Only thing major I've done is one axle seal and both 02 sensors.

Do some research over on BITOG. High-milage oil is essentially the same oil as "regular" oil, but has a different additive package. From what I recall, the major differences are to keep seals and gaskets healthy. IMHO, if you are not having any issues (leaks, weaping, etc.) then I would just keep using what you normally do.

My camry has 2 main seal leaks so yeah I've been using high milage hoping it would help expand the seals and make the leak slower. It doesn't leak a lot but it definitely leaks.

Never. If you begin to lose oil pressure, it's time for an overhaul/rebuild. If you develop leaks, it's time for replacement seals.

The motor even though its leaking runs smooth and clean. Eventually i will replace all gaskets and seals only problem with my car is have to remove everything including the transmission in order to replace the main seals. If I'm gonna go that far i might as well rebuild the whole engine. But i cant afford it right now so I'll just keep adding oil as it needs. I have no engine lights, no serious leakage, just slow leaks (i add oil about once a month)
