BTW got my asap on with my new armorers wrench. Both an early bday gift from my brother. Picked up a no name single point sling at the gun show too.

i would do a trust, that way you know for sure that your guns will stay in your family for at least the life time of the youngest person in the family. its a guarantee that your firearms wont leave your family no matter what political situation that the country is in. you wont have to deal with passing down a class 3 weapon to your kids with out them doing the background check and wait for the paperwork. also i know that in the current awb (that wont pass) you would have to give up your "assault weapon" to the federal gov after your death. a trust would prevent that

cant it stay in the family either way? i think my dads paperwork had a section on who to leave it to if he was to pass and i think he had an individual? i'm not too sure, i was just told the individual was the easiest and i'm trying to get my hands on it before my deployment in a few months =x

if anything happens to you the guns go to the trust (i think) or a individual on the trust paperwork.

So I had a lawyer start working on the paperwork for a trust and he wants to charge me 250. Does that seem high? He told me that he did one recently for the same reason, federal tax stamp, and pretty much will do a copy paste for my info and such. He said it worked for the guy he did it for but it seems expensive, idk?

    Input, suggestions.

No that's not high at all. Its actually about right. But please do your research on NFA trust lawyers. An improperly done trust fund won't hold up in court. And you won't know if it was done right until its too late. Don't cheap out and get a lawyer who "did one this one time for a guy and it worked" use one that specializes in NFA trusts. Also make sure your trust doesn't end with you, it ends with the tough person in your immediate family. That way the funds are guaranteed for the longest amount of time.

Trusts are about 300.00 here in Dallas. Remember the tax stamp will cost you 200. on top of the fee from the trust.

That's cheap. Hope it's legit. I just had one done by a firm in Virginia. They were awesome and it was super easy. they charge more than that but also specialize in firearm related law

So there isn't any way to add people to a trust? When I have kids I can't make them trustees?

I agree about the lawyer too, I do know him and he has helped me before I'm not sure this is in his wheel house.

Who was this firm? I might want to have another firm double check the paper work.

iirc Packerfan on here did his that way. Check the NFA section on M4carbine.net

tons of good info over there. Lots of people use quicken will maker. but lots of people also pay a lawyer to make one...

    YMMV

You can add as many people as you want to the trust if its done right. One of the common problems with getting a cheap one though is that it names you as the sole beneficiary and holder.
