Toytec's lousy customer service

still dont see why the gripe with toytec?? the rules are the rules plain and simple, if anything i would be raising hell to bilstein for making a crappy shock not toytec for following the rules bilstein put in place for them to be a vendor. also i would be thankful that they are trying to save you teh trouble of completely being out a shock when you take it off and the chance bilstein refuses the claim and refuses to ship back the shock..... but hey that is just my .02, i mean when it comes down to the nuts and bolts its your money not mine as well as your time so you can be mad at whomever you would like..... maybe you are even mad at me now? dont know, but not my intent.

I've never heard of a shock being overfilled.
If it leaks then its blown, its done, its dead. Throw it away (if its a bilstein) or rebuild it if its re-buildable.
Leaking is not normal.

I remember just a couple months ago bilstein had no issue warrantying this shock for us. It was an FJC rear 5100 and it was about 10-11 months old.

Yes, I have taken the shock off and cycled it and it cycles as it should. My bitch and complaint is that the shock continues to leak oil.


This is now my 3rd time taking the shock off, cycling it, and cleaning all the leaking oil off the body. A shock that works correctly and has no issues should not be leaking the amount of oil this supposedly "good" shock has and continues to. Cut zip tie off dust boot to show the continued leakage






As with the prior 2 times taking the shock off, I again cleaned all the dirt and oil off the shock body and within probably a week or so there will be oil leakage all down the body of the shock again

 

Especially since I'm about to switch out my Toytec Superflex rear coils to the All-Pro 3.5's

 

Well maybe you are not understanding my gripe with Toytec. As a customer who has spent their hard earned money with a company, when something goes wrong with that product I would expect any standup company to go to bat for their customer and attempt to resolve the problem. Not just send them some picture and state "hey they say it will leak, there's nothing else we can do". That right there is a piss poor answer and piss poor customer service

As stated, oil leakage alone does not constitute a blown shock. That was why we asked for the shock to be removed and cycled by hand to determine whether it was blown or not.

Also, you said that you had reused the stock bumpstops. Did you verify that extended bumpstops were not needed and the shock would not bottom out?

If the shock is bottoming out due to over compression, that could be the cause of it pushing oil pass the seals.

Like i said, if you do feel that the shock is blown, give us a call and we will try to get you taken care of.

Ok so apparently I'm not the only one who believes that this continued oil leakage from a supposedly "good" shock is not normal. Good news bud, I guess I'll contact Bilstein directly

As stated I have taken the shock off 3 times now and cycled it, and it cycles as it should...but continues to leak oil after re-installed.

I did not even think about the stock bumpstops not being sufficient and the shock bottoming out. I guess if that was the problem (which then would make me look like quite an ass) that could explain the continued oil leakage.

 

I've only had good experiences dealing with toytec. To be fair, I think best option is to contact Bilstein. See if they can confirm whether such seeping is expected.
