This is my first post so bear with me. Just bought an '06 (my son totaled my "05) and the radio reception is barely anything, as if there is no antenna. Tried reading up on some posts but can't figure it out without taking everything apart under the wheel well and dash. Everything that I can see looks fine, no corrosion, loose wires, etc. Anybody have an idea what the likely problem might be? I thought that maybe someone messed with the radio (head unit?) and forgot to plug the antenna back in. Could that be it? Appreciate any help. Mahalo! jmoo in honolulu

The antenna wire is the fat black wire going into a corner (I believe) on the back of the head unit.... it should be the biggest one there, just an FYI

Then check your antenna and make sure its tight in the socket. The antennas on these trucks have a tendency to work themselves loose over time. Other than that, I have no clue without physically tracing the wires. I suppose it could be the radio itself?

Thanks for the heads up Brian. I'll pop the head unit and check that antenna wire first. Cheers!

No mud flaps, plasti dipped emblems, and rear bumper, Weather tech digital fit, Bed mat from tractor supply. Pioneer 4400BH head unit. B.A.M.F bed rail tie downs. AVS vent visors.
I had the same problem when i put my new head unit in. the antenna wire got pushed back and kinda hidden, so i for got to plug it back in. I think the antenna wire also has a pice of foam around it. but don’t quote me on that.

Anyone know what this wire needs to go to? It is a aftermarket harness for 2013 FM antenna. I am replacing my stock radio with a JVC. Dont know where this blue wire needs to go.

Looks like it's for a power antenna or an inline signal booster. It's looking for switched 12VDC from your head unit I believe, probably the power antenna wire on your other harness.

So I just got my radio working. Pulled the head unit using the video instructions from www.gtacarkits.com for the 2005-2012 Toyota Tacoma iPod... member cbe513 posted the video on 3/22/13. Anyway, it's real easy. With the head unit out, I looked in the back and saw the antenna cable hanging there unplugged. It's a black cable with a mini jack. So I plugged it into the socket on the left rear of the head unit, tested it and, voila, it works! I have full reception on AM and FM. Makes me wonder if it worked itself loose, or someone messed with it and forgot to plug it in, or maybe it never was plugged in (just bought the truck). In any case, problem solved! Thanks everyone for your input.
