What do you guys know about the AMD FX 3.8ghx processor? I found it for $109 on Amazon. Its a little less then the AMD A10 because it doesn't have the integrated graphics. I also found the Radeon HD 7770 Core Edition 1gb Graphics Card for $120, and I found a couple cheaper on ebay brand new. What do you guys know about this video card? I see it in a lot of budget builds and it seems to yield pretty good results.

I really don't know much of a difference between video cards... I'm just assuming the higher the number the better it is lol. I did want to try and get one with dual dvi ports for dual monitors. Which that one has. It shows as $130 when I click the link, but I can probably find it cheaper on ebay brand new or something. Thanks!

Also, I did look into intel cpus a bit, but they are pretty expensive for what you get.... If I did go intel I would want at least an i5.

SSD is just for the OS. You don't want to install your program files on it. The main thing is the help in boot speed.

For the HDD, just get a TB or two... they're cheap enough.
Jeeze... my first HDD was 64 megabytes and cost $600 and RAM was $100/meg.

    You kids are lucky :D

I always see people posting about how cheap you can buy ram, and everytime I look anywhere it's about twice as much as everyone says! I'm thinking I will get a 1T HDD and try to find a good SSD. I may wait until some good sales come up. It's hard to build a budget PC when I keep having to add on new parts!

Instead of an SSD as your OS drive look at Seagate's hybrid drives. Boot up speeds are much better than a 7200rpm hdd and alot more storage space for the money than a comparably priced SSD. A hybrid will probably be my next OS drive.

If you can afford a large enough SSD you should install all applications on it. The same fast boot time you get with an SSD will also start your applications faster. I use SSD's in my servers for a quick boot time, but you should not install applications on the boot drive of a server. One of my desktop computers has everything on single SSD drive. Computer is about 4 years old and runs great! 12gb of ram and a fast SSD will make an older computer scream.

Another option is a hybrid SSD. 2 or 3g of ram and a regular hard drive. Speeds start up and after that will move most used files into ram if available. Cheap.... Around $100.00 to 1TB. I have one of these in my laptop now.

Also clean the crap off of your computer. I use CCLEANER. Free and does a killer job.

If there's enough space on the SSD, I would install the applications on it also. Your first HDD was 6 times larger than my first HDD :D

So you want nothing installed on the ssd except windows? Or should you install certains applications onto it also?

I bought a Samsung Pro 128GB SSD & a 1TB Western Digital Black. You could skip the "Pro" and "Black" part and save a few $$.

You CAN, as indicated above, but at your budget level, you really won't be able to.

Honestly, if I were building a "shoestring" budget machine, I would forgo the SSD. We are not running SSD at work and boot times are fine on our i5 and i7 machines.

If you got a decent sized ssd (40 GB) you could probably install your operating system and programs on it. What i think you would want to do, is partition a partition for just the operating system, then put all your programs on the empty. I think that would work..

As has been said, the SSD is very fast. So if your backbone of everything is fast, everything will be faster.

For example, if I have cat 3 cabling throughout my house, I can only reach the speeds of cat 3 even though I am paying for 1GB internet, (Unrealistic really, but you get the idea)

Or if you have a very old router, than can only process 10 MB, and you have 15mb coming in, you can only have 10 MBs going to your computers.

In these cases, the cat 3 cabling is your lack of SSD, and you old router is your lack of SSD. One way to put it I guess..

I see some people build their systems without an ssd and add one in later. But won't that cause a problem if I already have my OS installed on the normal HDD. I won't be able to just uninstall it from my HDD and redo it on an SSD.

    I think you actually can..
There are two versions of operating systems. One is OEM and one is not.. (Not sure if a different name??????????????????????????????)

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116716

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986

Same product at first, except for the $100 increase.
So does it make sense to buy the $199 one? Not really, unless you plan on reinstalling 3 times..

I know it doesn't say that you can uninstall and reinstall on the first product, but I am pretty sure that is the difference. Check out different stores. Newegg doesn't always have the best prices... and navigating their website is a bit of a pain, and the product information is poor. when I bought windows 7 from them, i spent a week trying to decide which one I wanted, because the descriptions were the same.. and I couldn't find the 64 bit.

EDIT: If you were to add a ssd later in time.. I wonder if you couldn't play around with the partitions and make the SSD a extended partition or something.. I am pretty sure you can't just copy all the files either:D:D

When I bought a SSD, I just cloned my OS partition from the HDD and copied it to the SSD.

Make sure it will work with your motherboard, and be compatible. Also, what screens and connections do you plan on having? HDMI, DVI? Do you plan on having dual screens? Keep in mind, good monitors are expensive! I have one I could sell you probably, but it is small.

Keep in mind, you could spend $2000 http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-ATI-Fir...583?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item4174636a57 :D:D
