    2005 Tacoma Here.

After coming to a complete stop (tank full or empty, no matter) I feel the truck lunge underneath me. Almost as if the perpetual motion is continuing in the transmission. Happens every time and the feeling is the same when I press on the gas from stop. If I mounted a camera underneath aimed at the wheels, I would suspect to see them roll forward an inch. It's delayed a 1/2 second, again, as if the tranny is "catching up" Tightened the rear u-bolts and did not make a difference.

It is very puzzling. It won't do it if I am in neutral coming to a stop, and it won't do it if I am coming to a very very slow stop.

Hoping I don't have to pay someone to figure this one out.

    Thanks!!

    Jeremy

That sounds normal for that truck, I had a few 03's in for that issue. nothing wrong, just a Toyota thing. one of them was a high idle with the a/c on. (made it feel like it wanted to lunge forward at a stop)

If your not happy with it bring it to your local shop, good luck

Weird that it didn't happen all the time before. I have a new truck and I notice that when I stop, my truck will lurch a bit after coming to a complete stop if I don't have the brake firmly applied. It's the auto transmission downshifting, usually after a little faster than normal stop at a red light or stop sign.

If I'm not mistaken, what you are describing, is a delayed down-shift to first gear from the tranny. I used to have a Dodge Dakota quad cab 4x4 that would do the same until I put the Trans-X product and ran it for about 100 miles, then I did a complete oil change. It was until then that it stopped doing it. Later a mechanic told me that sometimes the hydraulic pistons inside the tranny get stucked, causing the delay on down-shifting.

You aren't the only one.. I have seen this issue before but can't find the thread I was looking for but here are others you can read:

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...one-experienced-these-two-strange-things.html

PS, that third one mentions a weird "fan" noise after being off for a while. I noticed that too and I was like wtf? Is my truck gonna blow up!?! lol

I would say it's normal. My 2012 does it fairly often as well.

It also helps to adjust the rear brakes. They come pretty loose from the factory. Most of the time if you are holding the truck at a light only the front brakes are engaged. So if the transmission delayed shifts, it drives the rear wheels and lunges the truck. With tight adjusted rear brakes they will hold the wheels and all you hear is a thump but no movement.
    Helped on my truck.

    Update:

Problem is still there unfortunately. I talked to a Toyota technician and he said there is a TSB for the driveshaft. Anyone else have any luck with this TSB? I am sure mine is out of range for this. 2005 with 85k

Yeah, I had the same issue with my 09 with 40k miles on her. Warranty covered it. Replaced the driveshaft and the issue stopped.

Happens when the a/c compressor kicks on while you are stopped. Normal behavior.

Not what I am experiencing unfortunately. Well aware of that issue with more than one vehicle I have owned.

The A/C can be off and I have the same problem. Only time it does not happen is when I am in neutral coming to a stop.

pretty sure this is just axle wrap... lol. Since I changed from stock leaves to All-pro leaves, it hasn't happened since!

As far as I know, that lurch is just stored energy in your leaves that's rebounding after you come to a stop.

Always felt like my brakes were failing for just a second. Prior to changing leaves, I always came to a full stop then let off for just a second and rolled a few inches to let the leafs get that energy out.

Normal for me - I assumed some type of engine surge from A/C compressor or another ACC tagging in or out. I don't notice all the time and it is usually "faint"
