He updated the controller so he had to bring the box down. Would be cool if TW was on a Virtual Machine, then you could just V-Motion the entire site to another machine (if they were using external network storage). Well that, or just run the web server in a clustered environment.

That wouldn't reduce down time when upgrading a raid controller though.
Assuming they use virtual servers for the web server they would need at least two nodes of a cluster who's virtual disks are on different raid controllers.
I suspect the real issue is the database. To eliminate down time they would need two database servers with their databases (and virtual disks if virtual machines) residing on two different raid controllers and setup for high availability in some fashion (clustered, replication, failover, etc.).

Considering this is a forum and not a hospital it's probably excessive to have essentially mirrored raid configurations.

That's why I was mentioning external network storage (NAS) that would be independent of the chassis the web server resided on. If you V-Motioned the web server to another chassis utilizing the same volumes on the NAS you shouldn't have to skip a beat. Right? Then again, none of this matters since TW is probably running on a box running Windows Me.

Lol, all this talk of vmotion and virtual storage. It sounds like ya'all think tcbob has enough money to spend 50k on sw and a similar amount on nas appliances n junk. ;)
