I got my truck with like 150 miles on it but it had been babied to the dealership considering it was driven by an older gentleman and it did not bug since I did not have to drive those miles to break it in

The msrp deal is a long story, I reside in Nevada and my dad lives in Oregon. So we can buy in either state but the otd price was better in Oregon because there is no sales tax which is around 7.5 percent. I found the truck otd for 32.7 which is better than what I could get it for in Carson City otd.

Dunno, I don't buy vehicles new, so 300 miles doesn't sound like much to me. It's less than a week of commuting. Look at it this way though, if something is gonna break in the first 300, let them break it in for you. In the end, a shiny new Taco is worth it. (just check the damn roof for paint, don't ask)

You do know you pay tax where you register your car since you're military right?

Meaning you could always buy the truck in Nevada and title in in Oregon and not pay sales tax.

Screw that. My truck had 15 miles on it when I test drove it, no big deal, but 300? After seeing a brand new dealer vehicle being driven on the highway at 85 mph and like a banshee in a 65 zone, no way I'd trust anyone to break my brand new vehicle in for me like that.

That's my point, if you gave me a brand new truck it would come back smelling like burnt rubber and the exhaust would be making that ringing sound for a month. I had a gig in NJ and they gave me a ford exploder, that poor thing got rubber around every corner and jumped any curb I could find.:D

If I bought the truck in Carson the taxes were 7.5, I'm no longer active duty so I went the Oregon route which is 0. I have access to houses in CA, NV and Oregon so my guns are bought in NV, truck in OR and the kids in CA.

Nevada is a no brainier as far as firearms, look up my user name, I own class3 toys :). Every time I get a transportation letter for the machine guns and bring them into OR I meet some Barney who thinks I have to be a Cop or I am breaking the law, the SWAT guys in Carson don't even look twice at me when I see them at the range, once one of the Sniper guys walked over and told me he was glad he didn't have to clean all my toys and offered me a beach towel to lay on. I will end up retiring in NV for sure but my job takes me all over the US unfortunately.

15 miles is nothing. Its had a demo or 2 around the block.

Paying full $ for a 2013 right now, with 2014's a couple weeks away is just wrong. It already has a years' depreciation on it come time to sell or trade.

If its the exact model/color/option content you want ... well that's up to you I guess. I compromised on the color to get one off the lot. Would have been 2-4 weeks to get the exact one I wanted transferred from another dealer.

When I was Tacoma shopping back in July (Tampa Bay area) one dealer said they had a Tacoma in Miami they would drive up for me. They would hire someone to drive it. I said no to that deal. Another dealer said they had one in Tallahassee they would drive down for me. The sales guy would have to go and get it. I asked them don't you hire someone and they were no, my salesman would have to be the one to go up and drive it back. I thought that was funny. I passed on that offer too. Neither offers had the entune/Nav system I wanted so I passed. Besides that I dont want 200 or 300 miles on a truck. God knows what could happen to it on the way from where ever. I buy a new truck it better not have more than 5 miles on it.

I spent a couple weeks working the Jaxport where the new Tacomas come in. They do a fair amount of shuttling them around before they put it on a truck. Add a few customer drives & I'm surprised you can get one with 5 miles on it.

I been looking at a lot of new vehicles last few months and I can't remember seeing one with more than 2-3 miles on it(demos excluded). I expect them to have to move them some but it shouldn't be too much I would think. I'm no expert on this though.

I would go to another dealership and present the same exact specs to the detail on this Tacoma to them. Most generally if they don’t have the exact one on their lot they will look into the computer system and should locate the same exact one that is 300 miles away. Then see what kind of better offer you can get it for from them; price, delivery ect.

Here is a bit of inside dealer info i learned in my brief auto sales career:

The dealer will do everything possible to make you buy a vehicle that is on THIER lot. We were taught to agressively "discourage" ordering from other dealers or making deals like that. "Sell them what we have, period".

Not sure how it works in your state, but in TN you pay the sales tax when you register the vehicle. If you pay sales tax in the state purchased, you pay the difference in TN, if the state tax is higher

I bought a new 2013 in July. The dealer had to get the truck from a dealer in another state based on my request for a certain color/engine/options. The other dealer drove the vehicle to the dealer I purchased from. Truck had 220 miles on it when I got it. No big deal. Even if it had 0 miles on it as soon as I drove it off the lot it is a used vehicle. In the grand picture 300 miles is nothing.
Personally I think you are getting screwed way worse by paying MSRP. I would much rather get $2K-$3K off the sticker and have 300 miles on the truck. Ideally get $3K off and have less than 20 miles on the vehicle. Probably have to pick one off the lot or order one for that.
I am pretty sure one pays the sales tax in the state the vehicle is registered.
