I purchased everything to do the bhlm today and when im inspecting the lights I see this. So off to the the dealership. I printed out the tsb, they were cool with it but said they have to order the part. Also that they are only replacing the driver side since the passenger side is fine. Fingers crossed that they follow follow through with everything. I shouldnt have to pay for anything since its under warranty right?20131002_085133_zps4e6944fb_1b1a53cc67a56fe2295b5e631b54d3ffa345908f.jpg

    Correct, they should cover it.

Does having LED DTRLs prevent this from happening?

LED's would prevent this as they don't run as hot but for the OP, they can't just replace one as the new improved ones will not match as the lens are now glass and the tint is different unless they are replacing it with the old style then in that case it will burn up again.

New lenses are glass? Or just the inner lens over the dtrl?

We'll see what the dealer does. If they replace it with an old style headlight than when I do the bhlm ill run a different bulb. Either the slightly lower watt 3057 or led solution. The next option would be to leave the signal lens off when doing the bhlm. Another option would be throw a fit if the new housing doesn't match the passenger side. Hand them the tsb or call toyota. I don't think I'll get too worked up over it since I'm planning on pulling it all apart anyway. I just figured its worth a shot to try and get two new headlamps under warranty

The next question would be do I run clear or amber bulbs in the dtrl/turn signal since in tx. It is legal. The side marker is still supposed to be amber. Decisions decisions.

The new inner lenses are glass. See how there's no tint to it and it's also thicker. I believe that was the only way Toyota was able to rectify the issue without it having to melt again.

That's what I've been told but until someone opens up the new housing, then we will never know for sure.

So far no issues with the replacements and they've been on for a while.

Also the TSB calls for replacing both at the same time and not one at a time though it does not go into details as what the new "cosmetic" change to them are.

You'll find the TSB in this thread.

The dealer uses the VIN so they know which set of the upgraded headlights to order (smoke or clear). Print out the TSB and bring it to them. Don't let them put on just one side or even the old style headlights.

    Yeah.
This. They will not match, the updated ones are different. Doesn't the TSB even state this?

I had them replaced on my '09, and they were definitely a little different. Make them replace both -- and at the same time, they have to pull the entire bumper cover off to replace them.

So I asked the service manager multiple times prior to getting the service done if the dtrl lens was going to match. He said yes, they ordered by vin #. So I hung out for an hour and then it pulls up. I go outside and sure enough they are different. I say, "hey bob, they are different colors" so we go outside talk a little. Ive been overly polite the entire process as well. So he claims its faded. I told him the entire lens is an entirely different color and pull out the tsb. We go and talk to the parts guy and there are 2 different item numbers for headlights for the vin. So the the other light is on order. He copied the tsb. And im on my way to come back another day. That new headlight sure does look freaking sweet though.20131004_153458_zpsb78e3d20_af30f01cad2eee6f6cc4abb77e7c2d210934be5a.jpg

Your new headlight looks different from the ones I have. See how yours still have the mini box design right in front of the bulb? Look at your part list and make sure it is the one listed on the TSB parts list.

The bottom picture/passenger side is the old light with a yellow lens. The top picture/driver side is the new one with a clear lens. Sorry I forgot to mention. Ill look into it a little more though
