This is a continuation of This Thread

So the concert finally came and went. I thought I would give a few insights on what "I" personally thought of it. My wife couldn't be objective about this since all she really wanted was to see Jon Bon Jovi shake his ass

As stated in the other thread referenced above I bought the VIP tickets for my wife. She has wanted to see them since we were married and they haven't been to town in over 20 years. We got a shit ton of shit that I could care less about and I'm going to put "my" stuff on ebay and sell it. Really too much stuff to list but the autographed book is selling for upwards of $400 and the chair that they gave us is selling for the same price so whatever.

    On to the concert:

We arrived 3 hours early and got the VIP treatment I will say that. Food was awesome... entertainment was good, drinks were all open bar (although I don't drink referenced here), and front row seats.

Concert started promptly at 8:00 PM and 23 songs and 2:45 hrs later it finished. My view of the concert can be summed up in one word: Adequate

This was in no way shape or form Bon Jovi. This was the Jon Bon Jovi show (which to my wife didn't really make a shit because that's all she wanted to see anyway lol). Since I look at things from a more musical perspective and have played guitar since I was 14 and played in a band I tend to look at the details. The rest of the band (what is left of them) took a back stage to Jon. They were "mostly" hidden in the shadows with the exception of a few acoustic songs played on the outside ring of the pit. But make no mistake... Jon is running the show.

Bobby Bandiera played right in front of us the entire time and is no doubt a fine guitarist. Phil X did a decent job of filling in for Sambora but... Sambora can't be replaced so you get what you get. He hit every note perfectly but the background vocals are just not the same. Sorry Phil... Just the way it is. Hugh McDonald provided the lower end on bass but stood mostly stone still the entire time and looks almost like Chevy Chase. Tico and David I almost feel sorry for if it weren't for the 20% cut of each concert they get. They have been relegated to the back of the stage as back up performers.

On to Jon Bon Jovi. As arrogant as I personally think he is he has run the band for 30 years so he must be doing something right. I will give him credit though. He belted out 23 songs with what appeared to be conviction and at 51 years old he is still able to do this day in and day out.

Sound for the concert was a hit and miss bag. Sometimes being too soft and sometimes so loud it was nothing more than distortion. Seems as if they couldn't find the right balance which makes no sense being as professional as they are.

If I were to give the concert a rating from 1-10 I personally would rate it a 5. Mediocre at best. It had it's good points but the lows outweighed the highs.

Opening song: That's What the Water Made Me

(Yes... that is my wife you can hear screaming:rolleyes:)

And the only song that I really cared about hearing and HE FUCKED IT UP!!!! I can not stand when a artist lets the audience sing the song. I paid to hear you sing not me. I sing pretty good but I get that for free. I paid $2600 to hear you sing you fucking ass hole! If he would have gone back and started it from the first verse then it would be okay but he cheated us out of half the song. Fuck that shit! That is a HUGE fucking pet peeve of mine from any artist.

Fucked up version of Wanted Dead or Alive

After thinking about it for a bit... one thing I did find ironic was the cheapest ticket was $34.50. But once you pay $25 for parking, and with the cheapest t-shirts at the merchandise table clocking in at $45 ($55 if you are XXL), it is one of the most expensive tours I’ve seen. It gives a whole new meaning to the name of the tour, “Because We Can”…

Regarding the wanted dead or alive video, I understand when artists have fans sing a line here and there during a song, but the entire chorus, without the artist singing a single word is kinda ridiculous.

Also, that is a ton of money to pay for a concert. I'm not a nice enough guy to pay $2600 for my girlfriend to watch another guy shake his ass.

Yeah I agree... I don't mind if it's just a few words but the entire first part of the song??? Fuck that. That is a huge pet peeve of mine with "any" artist. In my opinion you are ripping your fans off. Now if he would have gone back and started from the first verse that would be just fine. I understand as a artist it must be amazing hearing words that you have written being sung back to you but sing them back to me also.

As far as the price my wife deserved this even if they were double what I paid. She has helped me through a lot the last couple of years.

The only time I would pay $2600 for a concert again would be to see David Gilmour play. I know he will never even come close to me and who knows if he will ever tour again. But I would pay it in a heartbeat.

And yeah.. that's how much it was the last time the Eagles came to town.

The last time Pearl Jam came in concert tickets were $35 for any seat. Awesome concert and in my top 3 bands of all time.
