Sounded like he was as wide as he could have been when he registered.

    Yes...yes it is

Na. It's not the width, it's the length of the shocks. 6.5" stroke shocks at 8" of travel is hard to keep up with the 14"/16" my truck has.
Micah at DSM is sending me some valve shims too so I can play withe compression valving a bit.

    Yes and no.
I can go over 80", just requires more lights, laws, and regulations.

Looks like it's working great Jason. Makes me want to get out my GoPro and do a similar vid with my trailer. One thing that I notice is your Max Coupler looks to be a tighter all around connection than my Lock-n-Roll. Not by much but I do have a very small bit of slop that the MC doesn't probably because of the bushings.

One thing you'll find is that the trailer will be airborne a lot if you are crossing irregular terrain at speed. Yours looks to handle it as well as any I've seen, from airbag and trailing arm setups, leaf springs, torsion axles...whatever. But ALL of them spend a little time in the air. :) Even fully loaded there just isn't enough weight for the suspension and/or tires to deflect quick enough to keep the tires down on the time.

BTW, what tire pressure are you running?

    Edit: oh and safety chains?

    Cool trailer.
Are you mounting safety chains too?

Tire pressure was at 18 psi all the way around, trailer included.
I have safety chains, as they are an on-road requirement and part of the DMV inspection. I removed them for the shakedown session and put them back on when I hit pavement. The purpose was to beat the piss our of it and to be able to listen for clicks, pops, clangs, bangs and what not. Chains would have just made too much noise...and got in the way of the go-pro. I kept the brake wire hooked up so if I by chance I decoupled, it pulls the pin and automatically locks the brakes up on the trailer.

You can see the chains in this picture:

Finally had a chance to spin back through some of the thread.

Love the first pic. LOL. I understand. Being a visionary requires...uh...seeing stuff that isn't there yet, right? Just curious, did you google a bunch of the Aussie outback trailers while you were in the dreaming and brainstorming phase?

I'm going to check out the Valterra tank options. I didn't come across that brand earlier this year when I was looking for a water supply in my humble teardrop. I'll be looking into these for future refinements.

I've probably already told you this but I know my trailer suspension is stiffer than yours but I run 10-12psi in the trailer tires on or offroad. Even at high speeds the sidewalls don't heat up so I don't worry about them being too low at all. Offroad it definitely helps to have to tires soak up a lot of the high frequency hits that the suspension can't react to quickly enough.

    Thanks :D
How do you think that Manly would have handled by comparison

Yep, you mentioned it. I have my baselines that I like to start with on tire pressure depending on terrain and speed. I've got shock dampening and quite a bit more spring movement than most trailers. The trailer had zero problems with high frequency choppy shit. Just the bigger hits.

DSM is sending me a new stack of valve shims and I'm gonna swap out a couple of the high speed shims to a slightly thicker ones and call it done.

I looked at pictures/specs online, mostly looked at Adventure Trailers, Sierra4x4 Trailer, and Manly. Gave me kind of a baseline to start from.
Sierra is literally just down the mountain from my house (35 minute drive). I stopped in one day and met the owner. Bought my fenders, tongue jack, and u-bolt plates from him. Super cool guy. Gave me a tour of the shop and offered unsolicited tips and tricks.
Most of it was just vision and execution though. I knew what I wanted. I had a plan and lots of scribbled bar napkins.
I bought my tongue box and built the A-frame of the tongue to match the dimensions exactly.
The water tank was almost entirely by accident. I was going to have a custom one built. But I was doing some Amazon shopping and picked up the stabilizer jack that Valtera sells to put under the rear bumper. I somehow clicked through several "other customer's bought" links and came across the water tank. The 21 gallon was pretty much exactly what I was looking for and only had to change my design by 1/2" and was dirt cheap. And if it ever springs a leak, ABS plastic weld will fix it like it was never there.

i would like another go with the manley at a lower psi to see how it compares. but i was afraid to go more than 10mph on the fire roads in fear it would start to barrel roll  it was on 1 tire more than two on the bumpy roads!

i have a constant reminder of that trip everytime i go on my patio and look at my grill, well what's left of it

Wow that suprises me. I can comfortably hit speeds between 35-50mph on most fire roads. Heavily rutted ones can slow me down to ~20mph or so and I'll definitely get some air under the trailer then but it's not a big deal. If you had to go that slow with the Manley trailer, my guess is the tire pressure was WAY too high.

Went through the entire build today. You went from having one of my favorite first gen's to now having one of my favorite trailers too.

tire pressure had a lot to do with the handling issues...wasn't my trailer so i didn't want to mess with his pressure...but i asked him later why the pressure was so high, and he had no idea...it was >50psi when i measured it...nearly blew up my pressure gauge!

so it was bouncy as fuck for sure..that's why i'd like to have another go at it with lower pressure to see how it should have handled...

Cool. I would need a much smaller one, and they have a variety of sizes. I wouldn't mind a pump and a small basin.
Well this is interesting, Adventure Trailers has some great stuff, I've seen the Horizon before, but they show an offroad teardrop, and that teardrop is bult by Socal Teardrops in Upland (and their franchises Treeline in Petaluma NorCal and Canyon Country in AZ). It is a Socal 459, I can assure you, as I have been over every inch of one when I had my on-road 509 built. They go bonkers on stoutness, and are far above any other teardrop I've seen, even for on-road trailers. 459 uses 2x3 square tube and OME suspension, for a start.

There is no end to the crazy offerings and inspiration from Down Under... http://www.missiontrailers.com.au/

    That's mr. dick to you.

I was told the pew pew laser picture of the truck was supposed to be in the banner rotation...but that never happened.
I'd have to get a picture of the truck and trailer 6 wheels in the air to make it into a banner. :pout:

    My frame is 2x3x1/8" :D
