So as of right now I have a K&N "Cold Air" intake.... Do you believe i would notice atleast a 1 or 2 hp gain over the K&N set up with a URD true cold air intake???

I don't think you would notice the difference between driving at all. If you are starting from stock, go with the URD, otherwise, live with what you have.

Thats what I was kind of thinking... I'm trying to get the max hp gains I can with strictly bolt ons.... Maybe swapping out the intake is barking up the wrong tree.

You should consider getting the URD MAF calibrator and some DT long tube headers. Beyond that, you're going to run out of things to do easily.

I have the TRD intake and it is amazing!!!! There was a night and day difference in power, took away all the restriction in the pedal. The sound of this intake is much nicer than the K&N, My friend has one on his truck and, mine is way louder. The only drawback is that it cost $400, but the best investment in the truck so far.

Man i'm pissed I wasted my money on a K&N... Ive heard nothing but good things about the TRD system but the price is to much and I honestly don't like the plastic tubing.

I think i'm going to spend my hard earned money on a URD system so I can sleep better at night.

Hey, I went with AIRAID mostly cause of price. Yes I had more air flow, but was not totally impressed. I use to run AEM in my previous Acura GSR and loved the growl it would make. I know I now own a truck, but expected more from a $200 plus investment. So, did not like the price of TRD, and the install placement of URD, even though I do think it is smart, just did not want to go through the install all together. But, I took the plunge, got a deal on True Flow XDI. Is it better, probably not by much. But it created a better exhaust note for my Borla Cat Back, and at WOT it is awesome. I heard the URD with Borla exhaust on you tube, and it was sweet also.

My point is, you wont be happy with your current intake if you've doubted it to this point. Soo, go for it, Ha Ha...

It is some weird composite material, not just plastic, almost an 1/8" thick. This actually keeps the air cooler since the metal tubing is more prone to heating up in the engine. Chrome looks better but I'm more concerned about performance. There is a reason it is more expensive, it is from TRD and they are Toyota tunning experts, I don't know what they did but it performs better than the k&n setup and i bet it's better than all the other systems on the market. I don't like the URD filter placement, especially for the rain, plus you can see it through a billett grill and it doesn't look as clean. The box in engine from the TRD also creates a louder sucking sound that screams as you pass people (my favorite part) , so you should be pissed about the k&n and for up the cash for the TRD or wait till you can. :D

I have the TRD aswell and it is a nice intake. URD will not have problems with the rain. I know there was someone saying when it rained heavily his truck stumbled but I have a hard time believing that. Someone on XRU was swearing up and down he sucked water into his intake, turns out his MAF connection was not tight so that was causing the problem.

So I was looking up TRD intake setups and the numbers are perrty imperssive and i'm sure not exaggerated...

Comes with a reusable high-flow, low restriction air filter.
All testing done to stringent Toyota standards.
    Peak to Peak Power Gain HP +11HP @ 4,850rpm; Torque +19.0 ft-lbs @ 3,600rpm
    Largest Power Gain HP +15HP @ 3,150 rpm; Torque +25 ft-lbs @ 3,150 rpm As tested on 06MY Tacoma.
    Individual performance improvements may vary.

Anyone happen to have seen any numbers on that injen set up I posted??? or have any ACCURATE numbers on some intake set ups that beat these numbers? I like everything I heard about the TRD intake set up... There is only 2things I disagree with, Plastic setup and a hefty price of $400.00 big ones..... I'm just a bit annoyed that 60% the price take is the TRD letters on the box because I know plastic is not that expensive...

well in actual production material cost, nothing is expensive metal or plastic, it's all the research and development cost, marketing, and brand name that makes it expensive. they can charge $400 because it's worth it.

I believe the gains...but do you get an mpg increases with stock ECU map? Anyone? Even just staying even I might do it, but if it causes a decrease it would be hard to justify.

I get slightly better gas milage, but i also bring the RPMs up a lot more so I can't tell how much it would improve if I drove normal :D

Oh ya, I believe the higher rpms because of wanting to hear the "whoooooooosh" but driving it like grandma is on the hood do you actually get gains in mpg with the TRD?
