    hi guys . im having a friend service my 07 taco and wanted to change the trany fluid and filter. so i went to a toyo dealer to get 4 qts. of atf. and the parts man had this bewildered look on him and walked into the shop. he came back and told me that the fluid had to be injected in by a computer at a certin temp. and i should wait till i hav 100.000 miles on it. It has just under 80.000. hopefully i,ll be driving to fla for the winter in january. also i havn,t tuned it up or anything outher air filters and oil changes. is there anything you guys would do to it before taking the trip. i,m planing on changing the belt also..
    thanx for your help
    sorry about the spelling

    wow just read the links you provided me . dont i feel like an a**h***. and i thought i knew everything. 30.000 miles for plugs i was way off. one of the things he,s doing is rear brakes and axle seals. he thinks the vent is cloged. so i,m shure he will do the gear oil. if not i,ll hav him do it before i leave thanx again boys ( the man who knows s***)

    It depends on your engine:

    2.7 4 cylinder:
    Plugs = 120k (iridium, I did mine at 100k and they looked fine).
    ATF = Toyota Type T-IV, drain and refill about 5 quarts every 60k. Trans has a dipstick, maintenance is the same as any trans that you are used to.

    4.0 6 cylinder:
    Plugs = 30k (copper).
    ATF = Toyota Type WS, drain and refill about 5 quarts. Toyota used to claim it was "lifetime" but is now "okay" with a drain and refill at 100k when used for towing. The 5-speed is "sealed" and has three plugs... refill, check, and drain.
    The procedure is outlined in one of the linked threads above. Yes, the fluid does need to be at the proper temperature, but it does not need to be injected by a computer.
    It's no harder than refilling the diff lube other than the specific temperature range needed.

    Yeah he smoking something.

    Also I see you talking about a belt? If you talking about timing. No need the '05+ have a timing chain and not a belt, it's good for like 2+ times as long, as a timing belt.

    If the oil is changed as it should be, the chain is good forever.

    Old oil is what kills chains.

    If the trans is not hunting, it's not hurting anything. If you start getting into hills then you'll want to pull it down to avoid hunting... but I do that during normal mountain driving if the trans starts hunting for a gear.
