Roof Rack coming down. Need advice to mount rubber channels

I know everyone hates new threads but for those of you who voted in the poll I now need your advice.

OK, I can't stand it any longer!! I take back what I said before about leaving it on. It has to come off. It doesn't feel right to me.

For the odd time I use the extension ladder, I'll use the bed extender and leave the ladder sit flat in the box. If I don't get the bed extender I'll just put a couple of blocks at the front to weight it down like I've done before.

So, I kept the rubber channels *just in case* I needed them.
Tape or a dab of silicone over the bolt holes, right?
The back end of the channel slips in near the window so no worries there.

The front clips are broken away and I have to live with that.

So, what adhesive do you recommend I use to hold the front rubber channel down. Polyurethane (like PL400 constr. adhesive or Gorilla Glue)? Epoxy? Urethane (like when you put in a windshield)? Maybe epoxy putty?

 

3m makes that double sided "55mph tape"......but that stuff is strong as hell and should work pretty good. if you dont want to use that.........a good epoxy would work and i think "gorilla glue" will do a good job too.

 

Thanks Redneck for telling me about the tape. "3M acrylic foam tape" looks like pretty amazing stuff. I see it's used by guys who debadged and need to put it all back on.

 

I wouldnt use gorilla glue that stuff swells to much
and might make it raise above the channel

 

good point. I won't use that.
I'll get some pics tomorrow to show everyone the inside of the channel and the broken front clips. I'll see how the rubber fits in after being removed.

 

yeah....it does swell like crazy. maybe i would second guess using that......but it is strong as hell though. when we see pics, maybe we can tell what your best bet would be.
