Work gets in the way of life for me for the last year and a half 2011 I was out with my camera almost everyday 2012 for about 6 months until the police academy, 2013 a total of 10 or so folders for the year on my HD. Mostly from my trip to Seattle.

Any photo editing programs I should look into besides lightroom? I want to start playing with these

I've come to the realization that I either suck at taking pictures or need to get a lens other than the lens that came with the camera haha

 

Grass is always greener. I got out of HS, joined the Corps, got out, worked a factory and said screw this work crap, I'm going to school. Now school sucks haha but I don't want to go back to work either. I've strongly considered buying the motorcycle I want and just following good weather. I'd be a hobo with a sweet bike and nice camera gear haha just typing it makes it tempting, even if only for a few years!

are you shooting RAW? hope so..jepgs edit like crap..just saying start shooting in RAW if you really want to get the most out of editing.

PS, Elements and LR are pretty much the best choices.

 

Photoshop is typically the next step but there are tons of smaller programs for specific things.

A nice lens always helps, I'd recommend a fast prime like a 50mm f/1.8 (or 35mm 1.8 for a crop sensor) but at the end of the day no amount of gear can make a photographer. You gotta practice night and day ha I literally don't go anywhere without a camera and I've improved. When I first started I wouldn't take it with me hardly ever and I didn't.

I really need to start using my camera more. I haven't used it much at all except to take pics for write-ups lately. I'll try to start taking more pics on my weekends and post them up on here so you guys can critique me!

I have access to whatever program I need, I just feel like I need to work on getting the picture to come out correctly raw before I start editing them.

 

Once I started using Windows Live Photo Gallery to edit my pics, I realized I hit rock bottom.

My grandparents sent me some lens filters and a lens hood. Are they really worth using?

They got me the filters in the link as well as a polarizer filter, uv protector filter, and a sky 1-a warm filter.
