no pictars, but as of 9:45 last night, the truck is ready for the weekend. just have to load up gear and tools tonight.

    last night:
-repair welding on the front LCA bushing/arm interface
    -empty out the catch can
-weld up a couple of pinhole exhaust leaks from mediocre welding done by the shop in Kansas that rebuilt my exhaust downstream of the y-pipe.
-bolt up the skids that were removed for the transmission drain and fill done two nights ago.

and then Mark took me for a ride in the rocket-taco.
@ 40% throttle, low boost, stock internals, dried up tires, mis-adjusted throw-out bearing, and 2wd, it was still a very impressive experience

all loaded up and ready to wheel. got the new CB antenna installed last night. just have to tune it real quick at lunch or when I get to camp tonight. current setup is now a 2' firestik, fold down mount, and a medium duty firestik spring. linked to a uniden bearcat 880, via double shielded, stainless wrapped, heavy duty coax.

yeah, I got the quick fold mount after the 2nd one broke. hopefully between that and the spring, this antenna will last longer than a year. just have to remember to put the antenna down like that during the week, when I'm in parking garages

My antenna is as long as my bed so a fold down mount won't really work. I debated getting some of those quick release mounts, but again I don't know where the hell I would safely store a 5ft stick! haha I'm hoping a spring will be enough for the new one. I don't have any parking garages to drive into though.

oh and  for the wheeling pics :D

Hey bud  same old same old. work hard, play hard :D
    how's the snow treating you?

get the quick disconnect mount, and then slap some of the small quick fist in the bed (the ones that are small enough to hold fishing rods) and it'll be plenty secure when not in use.

No where to put it in my bed though. 60" antenna and 60" bed. You add the 1 or 2" that the disconnect adds and it will only fit diagonally. Haha plus I'm going to have a 6 ft whip on the other side that really won't fit anywhere...

My understanding was ham can get away with some pretty short antennas actually. I ran a 4 ft antenna and couldn't ever get a very good tune out of it. It broke and I jumped up to this 5 ft and have all my channels at 1.2 or less with just a little bit of tuning.

The 6ft whip I mentioned is my flag marker for playing in the dunes.

That could work but it would suck to crawl under my rig in the snow to get it out. Haha
