I do not know anything about them, but what do I do to make my truck not only sound better/meaner, but improve performance, horse power or gas mileage? I'm most definitely a rookie and just want to learn.

Custom exhausts and CAI wont help the mileage or horsepower but will make it sound better. My suggestion would be youtube since everybody's opinion of sounding mean is different...

I have a K&N cold air intake in mine. It sounds pretty bad ass when you step on it. All my buddies have new chevys with the same intake and they don't sound like anything at all.
I thought about the exhaust as well but after reading everything about it on here from what I understand I would most likely lose power with the exhaust. The low end in my truck seems to really jump when I get on it and sometimes spin tire. I really don't want to lose that.
I also couldn't find an exhaust that sounded like a bad ass truck to me.

    Hope this helps!!

If this is just for sound than that is what you will get by modifying the intake and exhaust. However if you want better performance/horsepower and/or MPG you will not get it. The claims of such are bogus.
If you really want horsepower gain and perhaps some MPG increase you need to go with a supercharger. The MPG gain will depend on if you can keep your foot out of the boost. You will also have to run premium gas.

    Nice looking truck.

Intakes...i dont even bother with them. I run stock toyota filter. Exhaust...I have Aero. Very nice rumble and mate well with Toyota v6 tacomas. No real horsepower gain, just a mean rumble and made out of longer lasting shiny material.:D

Intakes are good for looks and sound. If you want real power get a supercharger, headers and exhaust you should then get real power results.

either are a waste of money on a tacoma , dont bother .

Unless your supercharged and are really trying to get every HP possible out of your truck .

The exhaust really just makes noise, not the best sounding noise either in our case

Do you have the aero muffler and resonator or just one or the other?

At first i just had the 2525 muffler with stock piping. I took it off and sold the muffler to a friend of mine with a nissan. Now i have the full exhaust

My truck came with an Air Raid Cai, and Borla exhaust. I don't think it does anything, but it sounds bad ass. If I had to pay for it aftermarket, I would never get it.

Yeah, if nothing helps performance really, I will still fork over the cash for some mean sound! Sound is just as important as some badass looks, in my opinion :). Now to decide what to get! When it's time to purchase, I will now have opinions to help me decide. Before posting this forum, I had looked online at flow master description, and obviously they're liars, because the description was surely convincing.

Both are a total waste of time/money, especially on a truck IMO.
