Just got my Pioneer AVH-X4500BT and steering wheel control adapter in the mail yesterday and was wondering how long you guys think it will take to install? is it something I can finish today after work or should i wait until Saturday. I don't think the actual deck will take that long but i'm not sure about the steering wheel controls adapter.

    Thanks

Varies by person and how much time you have after work. The steering wheel controls will likely require you to research what wires to use via internet (maybe you can do that at work?). I always want to rush to get a project like this done because I enjoy it, but waiting until you have planty of time is reallly the better answer.

I ordered monday and got all my parts wednesday and was planning on installing on a saturday but ended up installing everything on wednesday :)

I did have all the parts I needed though, and I mean everything, like steering wheel control harness (70-8114) for aswc-1, parking brake bypass and iphone cable. If you don't have those parts and plan to install them, you might as well wait till you have all the parts, as it will be a pain to remove the radio again to install parking brake bypass, iphone cable, or reprogram the steering wheel control. You want to make sure you are all done before you put the radio in.

    good luck.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to wait until the weekend. Doughboy, did you do this exact stereo install? And would you recommend the parking brake bypass?

I installed the avh-x5600. I think it is similar to your model, but with HD Radio. I think the parking brake bypass is useful if you are going to use smartphone apps.

I did not care to install the parking brake bypass initially, but found out I could not change to a downloaded background wallpaper without it. Sadly, I have ot buy the one for $20 because the 8500 will no longer work by just grounding the parking wire :(

Here is the one I use.

Install note: the directions allow one of the wires to connect to either the power wire to the amp or the power wire to the radio. Mine would only work when connected to the amp wire. No idea why, but if it saves you time... Definitely verify it works before you put it all back together.
