Lmao. Actually yes:) But no, that output shot is over exposed on my phone camera. But it shows how far the light travels anyways. You can tell cuz the ground in front of the truck is all washed out. Need to get a shot with my real camera. Batteries went dead on first couple shots. Ha. But yeah it's really not that bright in person. It's pretty bright. But I want MORE:)

This ones a little closer to actual output

Goes to show you how much pictures affect your opinion when buying a light from a comaony that has output shots. All they gotta do is over expose it and bam, light appears twice as bright as it actually does in person. I see it on some eBay bars for sell showing these way over exposed shots.
As a tip, look for clouds in the sky you normally shouldn't see at night, mountains, background noise in black areas.. Not saying avoid all of those, but companies like rigid, vision x, any other name brands actually use high end dslr's for their pics and they look amazingly close to how it appears in person. Very hard to get good shots like that with my digital camera.

That 21" looks like the first bar I ever bought. From superbrightleds.com. that thing sucked. It was like 4k lumens. And reflectors looked "christmasy". My newer 20" is 10,320 lumens. Yeah ditch that if so and get a better one to match your roof bar.

Mine was "24k" lumens as well. I don't buy that though.

EBay. From I think it's called sunyee international. It's a vision x knock off of the evo prime.

Theres your problem... this isnt an issue of whether or not 10w is better than a 5w, which I can assure you it is. Chances are that even if you got 10w LEDs, they are knock offs that dont even come close to a genuine 5w CREE bulb. People are getting screwed over on the regular due to false information just trying to save a buck. Im not calling you cheap, it's just what happens.

I thought I'd be able to let this kind of stuff go, but this has inspired me to do something about it. I am going to build a website. Im not giving away all the secrets, but the community will not have an excuse to say they were uninformed when it comes to buying lighting equipment. I'll probably have a store built into it as well, so make this project worth my while dammit! Coming Soon to an internet near you...

Well, imo, I don't think it's an issue with the wattage. I believe it's true 10 watts per led. I will have to test it. But I think it's the type of leds used. They are crees. Can't remember what vision x uses in theirs. I know they do use different circuitry too. So that is what's playing a part in my output. It's worth the $350 I spent for what I got. I can't see spending $1700 I think it was for this same bar from vision x. Before I got this one I was gonna get the 43" xmitter prime extreme with 5 watt leds rated at over 38k lumens. But they want $2k for it. I may go ahead and save and get it. Lol.
Good luck on your project too.

Does anyone know of a source to purchase just the light bar housings? I'd like to take a stab at building my own bar, but the housing is the hardest part to find.

If all else fails I'll buy one of these cheap 30" bars and gut it.
